THIS AND THAT..........THURSDAY
I'm growing more & more weary of these me, me, me, self-centered athletes. How about you? The whining Denver QB, Jay Cutler, had a long phone conversation with new head coach Josh McDaniels Tuesday. McDaniels attempted to mend the riff caused by the failed trade attempt of Cutler last month. It didn't go well and Cutler has gone into a full blown pout. Jay, enough already, the NFL is a man's game, act like one. I saw where draft expert, Mel Kiper Jr, compared Cutler to another super talented pain in the ass, Jeff George. Neither led their team to a bowl in college or the playoffs in the pro's. Lots of ego for not much production right?
Speaking of me, me, me, Plaxico Burress is back in the news today as he was charged with four traffic violations from a March 1st stop. Speeding, improper lane change, improper display of license plates and window tint that was too dark. He's had a beef with New Jersey officials for a handfull of unpaid parking tickets. He has the gun charge that may land him in prison & then there were those unpaid taxes. Those rules & laws are for other people, not me.
The King of me, me, me, Terrell Owens demanded #81 now that he's a Buffalo Bill. When told that WR James Hardy has #81 Owens, always the consummate team player, said "That's not my problem, #81 is mine". Asked if he would pay Hardy to surrender the number(a common practice in pro sports) Owens replied "nope, that's up to the GM, 81 is MY NUMBER!". What a guy.
LaDainian Tomlinson recently signed a downsized contract extension. He'll still make the same guaranteed money this season & could come close to his old contract for
2010 & 2011 with incentives. He says he's shooting at Emmitt Smith's league record for total rushing yards. L.T.'s been a great back, but that ain't gonna happen. He's still 6,000+ yards short of Smith's record. Don't see it happening.
One of my greatest fears about the upcoming NFL Draft is looking more & more possible. Missouri (my team) WR Jeremy Maclin could very well be headed to my lifelong arch rival, the Oakland Raiders. I love Maclin, watched him play over 20 games in his two seasons at Mizzou & the thought of him wearing silver & black saddens me.
NFC South team needs tomorrow. First up, Atlanta & Carolina.
