THIS AND THAT..........FRIDAY

To my surprise, the Chiefs named Clancy Perdergast to the defensive coordinator's position today. I still think the 6-week delay from his hiring to naming him D.C. was that they were holding out to see if Romeo Crennel would be healthy enough to take the job. I haven't been able to dig up anything on Crennel's recovery from hip replacement. Pendergast was defensive coordinator for Arizona last season.

The Rams released Torry Holt today. Holt might have a little left in the tank, I believe the reason he was released had more to do with his roster bonus due next week. He's only 32 & has stayed relatively healthy during his 11 years in St Louis. There could be some serious interest for this very productive receiver.

Mike Bellotti is stepping down as Oregon head football coach to assume the position of athletic director. During his 14-years as the Ducks' head man, they were 116-55, were 6-6 in bowl games & won or shared 2 Pac-10 titles. He also sent a bunch of Ducks to the NFL. Offensive coordinator, Chip Kelly had already been designated as Bellotti's successor.

In the annoying saga of Jay Cutler vs the Denver Broncos, ABC7 in Denver is reporting Cutler put his $2 million house on the market with the intention of leaving Colorado. I wonder how long Bronco fans will tolerate this immature behavior.

All of the top prospects from Ohio State had their Pro day in Columbus & the fast track yielded improved times for the lot. Terry Robiskie, James Laurinaitis, Beenie Wells & Malcom Jenkins all ran faster 40-yard dash times than they did at the combine. Wells improved the most running a 4.34 & 4.46, both vastly better than his 4.59 he clocked in Indianapolis. Robiskie had already run a better than expected 4.47 at the combine & he duplicated that time today. Jenkins & Laurinaitis ran slightly better than in Indy, but not enough to improve their draft stock.
