THIS AND THAT..........WEDNESDAY

Wisconsin RB, P.J. Hill, who has yet to workout for pro scouts, really boosted his draft stock last weekend. The junior, with 3,996 rushing yards & thought to be a 4th or 5th round pick next month, was arrested early Sunday morning. He was charged with DUI, reckless driving & knowingly fleeing a police officer. He's thrown a very large wet blanket on his pro day on campus don't you think?

The Chiefs signed three free agents on Tuesday, LB Monty Beisel from Arizona & originally drafted by the Chiefs out of K-State.  Former Seahawk WR Bobby Engram, a 14-year veteran possession receiver who has 6,700+ yards & 33 touchdowns. WR Terrance Cooper, with  Baltimore in '08, like Beisel, Cooper played mostly on special teams.

On Monday the Jets sent offensive coordinator, Brian Schottenheimer to Manhattan Kansas for some one-on-one with QB Josh Freeman. On Tuesday, head coach Rex Ryan & GM Mike Tannenbaum flew in for a private workout with Freeman. At this point in his development, I see no way he's worth the 17th pick in the first round, but like 6-8 other teams, the Jets are in need of a quality signal caller. Unless something happens on the Jay Cutler front, I expect Tampa Bay to send a contingent west to examine Freeman. The Bucs pick 19th, 2 behind the Jets.

Woohoo! In what became an annoying distraction after national signing day, the number one ranked prospect in the entire nation has signed, finally. Bryce Brown, RB from Wichita East High, he of 7,000 yards rushing & 52 touchdowns, signed with Tennessee a month after everyone else in the country had made their major college commitment. He had originally committed to Miami but the Hurricanes withdrew their offer after he took too long. He took recruiting trips all over the map & claimed it had finally come down to the Vols or K-State.

Way back on March 2nd, I predicted the Patriots would make a move for Carolina DE, Julius Peppers. They had cleared out $18 million in salary cap & had 4 of the first 58 picks in April's draft. Now there's a lot of buzz about this possibility. Some say it will never, ever happen, others say it's inevitable. Bottom line, Peppers submitted a list of 4 teams he'd be willing to play with to Panther management & the Patriots were on that list.
