THIS AND THAT..........FRIDAY
San Diego put the franchise tag on RB/KR Darren Sproles, then renegotiated the contract of LaDainian Tomlinson, giving the impression that the Chargers would go with this one-two punch again in 2009. On March 30th, the Chargers will host Knowshon Moreno, the Georgia tailback, for a private workout in San Diego. Just when the relationship between Tomlinson & Charger management appeared on the mend, this comes out.
Cutler update: Bronco owner, Pat Bowlen said told a reporter yesterday "I would like to keep him here, obviously. But if you are going to be an unhappy camper, there is no reason to be here".
Illinois had their Pro Day on campus Thursday & there were really only two things worth mentioning. Corner Vontae Davis, ran a 4.40 forty & recorded a 37 1/2" vertical jump. His position drills were impressive according to those in attendance. Davis wasn't in my first round rankings last December & now I have him at #11. Offensive tackle, Xavier Fulton, my 12th rated tackle, underwent double shoulder surgery the day after the combine, it was announced today. No word on what these procedures were intended to repair.
Missouri had their pro day Thursday and it was all good news for Jeremy Maclin, Ziggy Hood & William Moore. All three improved one or more of their numbers from the combine, plus all three looked great in positional drills. I had Hood at #47 overall, but I think he has a chance to squeeze into the late first round. Moore has solidified his spot at the top of my safety rankings. Scouts at the work out said he looked as fluid as he did his junior year. Foot, ankle & rib injuries really affected his senior campaign but he's healthy now. He ran 4.49 at 228 pounds. There was some bad news though, TE Chase Coffman, was unable to work out because his surgically repaired foot that was broken in the Alamo Bowl, is "about 80% right now". It appears Coffman will not be able to show the scouts his stuff before the draft. In December, he was a second round prospect on my board, but he will likely fall into the 4th round.
