WONDERLIC TEST SCORE HUBBUB
This morning on the Dan Patrick radio show, the Chicago Tribune's Dan Pompei revealed some of the Wonderlic Test scores for this years draft class. From what I've been able to find out, neither Wonderlic nor the NFL released these scores. A scout or front office person friendly to Pompei apparently was the source.
The Wonderlic Test is administered at the NFL Combine isn't an IQ test. The test is designed to measure a person's problem solving ability & the speed at which they process information. It is a 50-question test with a 12-minute time limit. I've taken several of them, if you want to take one, simply Google "Wonderlic Test", scroll down to the listing that offers free testing & give it a shot.
Of the scores Pompei released, Georgia QB, Mathew Stafford, scored the highest with a 38, Josh Freeman got 27 & Mark Sanchez finished with a 25. Of the offensive tackle scores that he revealed, Arizona's Eben Britton scored the highest with 31 while on the other end of the spectrum, Alabama's troubled tackle, Andre Smith could only muster 17.
Jeremy Maclin was the highest amongst wide receivers with a 25, Michael Crabtree, 15, Darrius Heyward-Bey, 14 & Florida's Percy Harvin, 12. USC's Clay Mathew's led the linebackers that Pompei listed with a 27, while Trojan teammate, Rey Maualuga scored a 12.
What does all of this mean? In the end, I don't think it means a lot, it's just another tool scouts & coaches use to size up prospects. I'll give you some scores from the last 30 years of testing. All are quarterbacks & some are very surprising.
Eli Manning.....39 Tony Romo.....37 Drew Bledsoe....36
Tom Brady & Steve Young........33 Matt Ryan.....32 Phillip Rivers........30 John Elway, Troy Aikman & Matt Hasselback...........29 Peyton Manning & Drew Brees.....28
Jay Cutler & Carson Palmer..........26 Ben Roethlisberger.......25 Brett Favre......22.
The other end of the spectrum:
Elvis Grbac.....16(no surprise to K.C. fans) Jim Kelly, Dan Marino & Randall Cunningham.....15 Donovan McNabb.....14 Jeff George......10 (surprise anyone?)
