MOCKING THE MOCKS......MOCK DRAFTS THAT IS
A week ago I posted a mock draft here much to my chagrin, I think they're sort of stupid as I said last weekend. I'm going to prove just how tough compiling a mock draft is, not tough in the sense that anyone is capable of doing one. It's just the success ratio on these 'mocks' is normally dreadful. Fans, the 2009 mock drafts were no different to be sure. I'll list the best of the best when it comes to this sort of thing & what their mock draft scored.
Mel Kiper Jr. The guru of draft dweebs, Mel & his hair have been doing this for 31 years, 26 on ESPN. Mel created a cottage industry following the draft. Of 32 teams, Mel got 8 exactly right & 27 of 32 names right in the first round, just had them on the wrong teams.
Jay Glazer FOXSports NFL Insider. Jay managed 4 exactly right & 26 of 32 names right in the 1st round.
Peter King Sports Illustrated, SI.com & NBC Sports. Peter managed 7 exactly right & 27 of 32.
Don Banks SI.com. Don got 6 exactly right & 26 of 32 names right in the 1st round.
The War Room@ The Sporting News got 4 exactly right & 24 of 32. These guys have subscription fees on some of their stuff.
Scout.com @ FOXSports managed 4 exactly right & 28 of 32 names right in the first round.
Michael Lombardi @ NFL Network was a former player personnel director for the 49ers & an ex-general manager for the Oakland Raiders. Mr. Lombardi got 2 exactly right & 27 of 32.
Pete Prisco @ CBS Sports.com got 6 exactly right & 27 of 32. Pete, if you'll recall from my post "Mock Drafts, We Don't Need No Stinking Mock Drafts" ranked Michael Crabtree 26th, Tyson Jackson 41st, Robert Ayers 67th & Kenny Britt 70th. Crabtree went 10th, Jackson 3rd, Ayers 18th & Britt 30th. Nice work.
Todd McShay from Scouts Inc. Also Mel Kiper's heir apparent at ESPN. McShay got 7 right & 28 of 32.
Rich @ richsfootballreport.com staggered to the finish line with 6 exactly right & 28 of 32.
With the exception of Don Banks, the rest of this crowd is taking down 6-figure incomes doing this & me, your humble, unpaid blogger, was just as lame as they were, better than some, lamer than others. It's just about impossible to do very well. Yet for some unknown reason, people request them.
