MY CHIEFS' DREAM SCENARIO

I don't know why I torture myself watching the tv talking heads spew their opinions. Yeah, many of them are ex-players, which certainly qualifies them to speak of a player's talent, effort & adaptability to a particular scheme. Unfortunately, many of them haven't even seen the Chiefs play recently or even know who's on their roster. It's also unfortunate that I have seen the Chiefs play recently, over & over & over.

By late last night, Tyson Jackson, the defensive end from LSU, was pretty much the consensus pick for the Chiefs with the tv & online pundits. Three days ago Jackson was 10th to 12th on everybody's list, now he's worthy of the third?  I think he's a major reach & when a team reaches, especially in the top-10 selections, which can be fatal. Remember Ryan Sims & his mega-million dollar contract?  The Chiefs traded up to #6 to pick this fraud. The Chiefs recent history is littered with defensive line reaches & blunders. Ryan Sims, Eddie Freeman, Junior Siavii, Tamba Hali, Turk McBride, Tank Tyler & Glenn Dorsey have all been 1st, 2nd or 3rd round picks in the last 6 drafts. Any of those guys jump off the page at you?

If the Chiefs are to trade out of the 3rd overall pick, they need a trading partner. Which in my 'Dream Scenario', I have that trading partner. I have several trading partners, one for Brian Waters, who I think the Chiefs are going to trade very quietly tomorrow & even Glenn Dorsey. I'm going to assume, in real life that can get you into a lot of trouble, but this is a 'Dream' remember, Todd Haley likes Anquan Boldin & would like to have him catching passes for him again. The Cardinals lowered their asking price to a second round pick & a player late yesterday but he is going to require a new contract & I have no idea if they want to get involved with his contract baggage, but this is a 'Dream'.  Here we go.

Trade #3 pick overall to Washington for #13 overall this year & Washington's first round pick next season. The New York Jets, at #17, could also be a possibility.

Trade #13 overall pick today & a 3rd round pick in '10 to New England(they covet LB Brian Cushing) for the Pats #23 & #47th picks today, now the Chiefs have a 2nd round pick.

"With the 23rd pick in the 1st round, the Chiefs select Eben Britton, offensive tackle from Arizona."
Chiefs now have their bookend tackles for the next ten years.

"With the 47th pick in the 2nd round, the Chiefs select Ron Brace, nose tackle from Boston College."
The key to a formidable 3-4 defense is the nose tackle. Brace is 6' 3" & 329.

"The Dallas Cowboys have traded their 3rd round pick, #69 overall, to Kansas City for guard Brian Waters."
End of day one.

"With the 67th pick in the 3rd round, the Chiefs select Cedric Peerman, running back from Virginia."
So long L.J.

"With the 69th pick in the 3rd round, the Chiefs select David Veikune, linebacker from Hawaii."
Good edge rusher, relentless, smart & strong.

"With the 102nd pick in the 4th round, the Chiefs select Corey Irvin, defensive lineman from Georgia."
Long arms, very strong & tough developmental DT.

"With the 139th pick in the 5th round, the Chiefs select Jarrett Dillard, wide receiver from Rice."
Super productive, 257 catches, 3,614 yards & 60 TD's. Not a track star but quick enough.

"With the 175th pick in the 6th round, the Chiefs select Phillip Hunt, linebacker from Houston."
Had 34.5 sacks, he knows how to get to the QB. College DE, he will have to move to OLB in pros.

"With the 212th pick in the 7th round, the Chiefs select Roger Allen, guard from Missouri Western."
Quite athletic for size, 6' 3" & 326. Moves his feet well but needs work on techniques.

"With the 256th pick in the 7th round, Mr. Irrelevant, the Chiefs select Robbie Felix, center from UTEP."
Smart, tough & was a pretty good player who would have been rated much higher except for suffering a very minor stroke last November. Totally cleared by doctors to resume playing & he did very well at combine.

Let's say the Cardinals don't trade WR Anquan Boldin by Sunday afternoon & Pioli/Haley really want him:
"The Arizona Cardinals have traded WR Anquan Boldin to the Kansas City Chiefs for DT Glenn Dorsey & a second round choice in the 2010 draft obtained in a trade with the Atlanta Falcons."

In my 'Dream Scenario', the Chiefs don't have a 3rd round pick in 2010, but they now have 2 first round selections. Hey, you just never know right?
