CHIEFS' DRAFT RECAP

1ST ROUND SELECTION--Tyson Jackson--6' 4 1/4"--296--LSU
Perfect size for this position with long, powerfull arms. Moves very well for someone his size, ran a sub-5 second time in the 40-yard dash. Excellent balance, stays on his feet & moves down the line in pursuit pretty well. Uses his strength & leverage to set the edge & hold his ground. Not a big sack guy, but he does knock down some passes. The position calls for a space eater, someone who occupies blockers & Jackson has shown he can do that consistently. I've heard people compare him to another 1st rounder of Scott Pioli, Richard Seymour. Let's not get carried away quite yet, but he should be very instrumental in defensive improvement. This isn't a position that a rookie excels in, regardless of natural talent.

3RD ROUND SELECTION--Alex Magee--DL--6' 2 1/2" 295--Purdue
Big enough, stong enough, long arms & powerful hands, get's fooled too often with misdirection & gets caught not staying home. Quick & gets to the outside in good shape, very good tackler for his size.

4TH ROUND SELECTION--Donald Washington--CB--6' 0"--197--Ohio State
Good size for a corner, extremely athletic, was in the top 5 in every drill at the combine except the 40-yard dash.  Vertical jump was a combine best for all positions at 45". Was benched last season for disciplinary problems. Could be very effective nickel back.

5TH ROUND SELECTION--Colin Brown--OT--6' 7"--341--Missouri
I had him rated as a 7th rounder or an undrafted free agent, but Chiefs worked him out in K.C. & apparently liked what they saw. Massive, no one bull rushes him. But playing in a spread with the wide line splits, O-linemen aren't required to hold their blocks as long on passing plays because the QB gets the ball out so fast. Looks like a mauler, hopefully he can slide his feet to cover the edge in the passing game.

6TH ROUND SELECTION--Quinten Lawrence--WR--5' 11 1/2"--184--McNeese State
Never saw him play. I do know he broke his ankle last season & missed all but 4 games. Report says he drops too many passes & has a tough time getting off the jam. Excellent speed & a pretty good route runner for a small college prospect.

7TH ROUND SELECTION--Javarris Williams--RB--5' 9"--223--Tennessee State
Never saw him play. Tough, durable runner with very good balance & decent quicks. Report also says he's not a creative runner, runs to the hole, that's about it. Willing, aware & effective blocker.

7TH ROUND SELECTION--Jake O'Connell--TE--6' 3"--245--Miami (Ohio)
Saw this team once & I have no notes or recollection of O'Connell. Couldn't find a scouting report on him.

7TH ROUND SELECTION--Ryan Succop--PK--South Carolina(Mr. Irrelevant--the last player drafted)
Saw him 5-6 times & he was the ultimate in hot or cold. Benched once for missing chip shot FG's. Don't recall his kickoff strength.
