HEY CHIEFS' FANS.......FUGETABOUTIT

I read this quote tonight, "it's a good thing Kansas City didn't trade Glenn Dorsey to the Falcons, it probably would've put them into the Super Bowl". Since when is maintaining proper competitive balance in the league the responsibility of a team that won 2 games last season?  If they were willing to part with the second round choice they used to draft Mizzou's William Moore, I say trade him to Atlanta. By God, if you can give Tony Gonzalez up for a 2nd round choice, why would you hesitate to trade Dorsey for another 2nd rounder?  Maybe it was all bulls*%t,  I hope so, because as we sat there watching teams tear thru a very talented 2nd round while the Chiefs' draft phone was getting cobwebs, I wondered where all the wheeling & dealing was. I liked the 2nd & 3rd rounds of this draft better than the first, better value & less boom or bust risk.  Bill Belichick maneuvered the Patriots into 4 second round picks & he's sitting on 4 more in the third round tomorrow. This is why the Patriots are competitive every year.

That third pick in the first round was like a turd in the punchbowl, no one wanted to even think about it, much less talk about trading into that spot & now Kansas City is forced to pay Tyson Jackson about $40 million. He played hard in every game I saw him in, I hope he reaches a pro bowl level playing for the Chiefs, I'd like to see him in the Super Bowl wearing a Kansas City uniform. A reader commented about the Baton Rouge gravy train the Chiefs have been running the last 3 years, Bowe, Dorsey & Jackson, all from LSU & contracted for over $100 million.  I don't know if Bowe will ever be more than he is right now, a receiver who drops more than his share of passes & has a pretty large ego. Dorsey? I hope he'll be much improved with a new scheme & better coaching. Jackson may end up being the best of the bunch.  So no more bayou Tigers for a while, changing our colors to purple & gold was never in the plan, was it?

Something you can always count on during the draft, the Oakland Raiders are going to do something outrageous. For starters, they selected Darius Heyward-Bey with the 7th overall pick. He was the 5th rated WR on my list & just about everyone else's. You want him?  Fine, just trade down to about #25 & he's all yours. But Al Davis is fascinated with speed, doesn't matter if he can run proper routes or catch the ball, nope, it's all about how fast he can run. I predict Al will get an earful daily as the #1 rated receiver, Michael Crabtree will be just across the bay, playing for the 49ers. Then as if that wasn't cool enough, they tabbed Ohio safety, Michael Mitchell in the second round. I thought it was just me, but Mike Mayock, the NFL Network's head scout hadn't heard of him either. Mel Kiper Jr. over on ESPN had heard of him & had ranked him like the 86th best safety or something. They didn't even need to expend a draft pick for him, just give him a call on Monday & sign him for almost nothing, now you're obligated to pay a couple of million dollars to a guy no one has heard about. Sadly, Mitchell wasn't even in the NFL's data base of 600 players. This transcends obscurity doesn't it? Can you imagine the phone call? "Hi Michael, this is Tom Cable & we just picked you in the 2nd round." Mitchell, who was probably mowing his mom's lawn, replies, "the second round of what?"  Way to go Al.

No shot for Boldin I guess, no one at the Pioli/Haley news conference questioned them about it. Hey, Pioli/Haley have a hell of a mess to clean up, it's like a toxic waste dump, this is going to take a while & I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt as they try to sort out this mess. But I'm still going to question stuff I don't understand, there's probably going to be some bitching too.  Probably? Fugetaboutit!
