THIS AND THAT..........TUESDAY
Denver wide receiver, Brandon Marshall, has demanded a trade, what a shock. Marshall was unhappy with his conversation on Friday evening with Denver owner Pat Bowlin. He packed the contents of his locker & left the facility. His whinny, selfish act has grown old with Bronco fans in a short period of time but with his domestic violence trial coming later this year, I question how much leverage he has in this mess. Denver did sign a wide receiver today, former Niner, Redskin & Bear, Brandon Lloyd. Considering Marshall's stats, I would think he'd bring some high draft picks in a trade, but that pesky trial may just negate some of his trade value. The usual suspects would probably put together a trade proposal, Chicago, Baltimore, possibly Minnesota & certainly Washington & Dallas have to be considered in any high profile player trade talks. If you're an AFC West fan, you've got to be happy with Denver's off season, which has been nothing short of bizarre.
It is expected the Oakland Raiders will sign linebacker Greg Ellis to a 3-year deal today. When Ellis was released by the Cowboys two weeks ago, the Raiders were never part of the conversation, but a weekend trip to the Bay Area led to his only negotiations with another team. There was talk last month about Oakland trading Derrick Burgess to New England. But when Ellis became available, it was thought he might sign with the Patriots. Now with Ellis in the fold, the Raiders may resume trade talks for Burgess.
Browns' wide receiver Donte Stallworth is expected to plead guilty today in Miami to DUI manslaughter in the April 12th death of Mario Reyes on a downtown street. Stallworth is expected to do some time but not as much as was originally expected. Accident investigators believed Reyes' jaywalking contributed to the accident. In fact they said it was doubtful a sober person could've avoided hitting Reyes. Had Stallworth been under Florida's .080 legal limit, he probably wouldn't have done any jail time, but when you blow .126, you give prosecutors enough ammunition to put you away for awhile.
In another Miami mess, Ohio State incoming freshman, Jamaal Berry, was charged with the possession of 28 grams of marijuana after police found it in his car during a traffic stop. Berry admitted to police he had just bought it & was going to smoke it with some of his friends. Buckeye coach Jim Tressel said he would reserve any decision on Berry's future in Columbus until he is able to read all the reports concerning the arrest. The 4-star running back was the 4th rated player in the country at his position, but with one very bad decision, everything is in jeopardy.
Several Seattle community leaders along with Seahawk head coach, Jim Mora, plan to scale Washington's Mount Ranier. The climb is a charity driven effort for the United Way. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is among the climbers who will attempt to reach the summit of the 14,411-foot peak on July 7th. It's rumored Mora & Goodell have nearly $500,000 in pledges already. Let's hope for good weather & everyone returns safely.
