A REALLY QUICK THIS & THAT FOR FRIDAY

Six Philadelphia Eagle cheerleaders will leave for a 12-day tour of Kuwait & Iraq. They will participate in some USO shows, do meet & greets & spend most of their time with U.S. troops. The will sleep in the barracks, eat in the chow halls & experience the brutal climate in the 2 countries. God bless each & every one of them for giving their time, their support & doing everything on the same level as our men & women serving there. As a formerly deployed vet, I wish I could make you understand how important this kind of contact is. Thank you ladies.

If you thought the Oregon Ducks had some of the worst looking uniforms in the country, wait till you get a glimpse of the new ones. Their gaudy all yellow, all green or combination color schemes with the diamond plate designs on the shoulders were voted by tens' of thousands of ESPN.com readers as the worst in college football. I just saw the five new uniforms the Ducks will be wearing this season & I have to say they are really lame. The color combinations aren't as hideous as the previous versions, but the 'wings' that adorn the shoulders really look pathetic, it's difficult to discern that they are, in fact, wings at all. Plus, their longtime classic, emerald green helmets, which were really pretty cool, have now been replaced with an all-over-the-helmet design that's anything but classic. Oregon has had a first class football program for nearly 20-years, but quit changing the overall look of your team every 5 years(is it to sell caps & jerseys?).
College football is all about tradition & if you are constantly changing your team's look, how is tradition ever a part of your program?  Take a look for your self: www.goducks.com & click on football helmet.

The 'Jones-Mahal' down in Texas, is far from finished, but it's open for business. Members of the public can now take a 1-hour tour of the new football palace in spite of the on-going construction. Jerry Jones is having trouble selling the stadium naming rights as well as some of the seats to Cowboy games in this recession. What better way to get a buzz going about the new place than allowing the public to tour the facility. Note to Jerry: possible PR problem regarding the tours, charging $15 for a 1-hour tour isn't the way to get good word-of-mouth going for your stadium. Seniors & kids from 5-12 get a discount, at $12, what a deal!  Since there's so little going on right now before training camps convene, charging $15 to tour a place still under construction, will create exactly the opposite of what Jones wants.  Maybe $5 & give it to a local charity, but $15? Sadly, the most touted & ballyhooed feature of the stadium, 2,800 flat screen TV's, haven't been installed yet. Fifteen bucks? Sounds like a rip to me.

I'd like to make a few quick predictions. Both Michael Vick & Donte Stallworth will be suspended for the entire 2009 season. Even tho Vick has already been suspended prior to his incarceration, I think NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will lower the boom on Michael for twice lying to him face to face. Plaxico Burress will be suspended for 8 games even tho he hasn't been convicted in his gun case, a conviction in the twice-delayed trial could result in another 8 games down the road. Chad Ochocinco will continue being a distraction to his Bengal teammates until one of them blows up, either in the press or actually confronts him. Brett Favre will play for the Vikings & they will win the Northern Division, but won't get past game one of the playoffs. Terrell Owens will start off hot, but as soon as fellow WR, Lee Evans, starts getting more passes thrown his way, T. O. may start whining the 1st time the Bills lose. The Browns, Broncos, Bucs, Rams & Raiders will all be worse than expected. You will remember the ones I got wrong but forget the one or two I get right.
