SOMEONE IS NOT TELLING THE TRUTH

Fourteen hours later, here's what I know about the Ben Roethlisberger sexual assault lawsuit. There have been no criminal charges, complaints or investigations in either Douglas or Washoe County Nevada. No county sheriff or local police involvement according to all law enforcement departments. I've read the complaint filed in Washoe County & it's pretty graphic, someone is not telling the truth. Andrea McNulty, the accuser, has also named 8 Harrah's employees in the lawsuit. They are; John Koster, President of Harrah's Lake Tahoe, Guy Hyde, Security Chief, Dave Monroe, Vice President of Food & Hotel Operations, Mike Rosenow, Vice President of Human Resources, Mark Masters, a security officer, Debbie Neall, position unknown & Stacy Dingman, a former hotel director. The Harrah's corporation is also named in the suit. In the report from McNulty, she alleges Security Chief, Guy Hyde, told her "most girls would feel lucky to have sex with someone like Ben Roethlisberger & Koster(hotel pres.) would love you even more if he knew this".  The lawsuit was filed by attorney Calvin Dunlap, who represented Dawn Gibbons in her high profile divorce case with Nevada Governor, Jim Gibbons. Neither McNulty or Dunlap have made any statements regarding the suit.

McNulty, a concierge at Harrah's Lake Tahoe, claimed Roethlisberger lured her to his suite to fix his TV & then assaulted her. I won't quote from her report, it's a way too explicit for family viewing. She claims executives at Harrah's conspired to keep her from filing a complaint against Roethlisberger. She was still in Harrah's employ as of yesterday.

Ben Roethlisberger has retained attorney David Cornwall, who was one of the runner-ups for the NFLPA Director's job won by DeMaurice Smith. Cornwall issued a short statement; "The timing of the lawsuit & the absence of a criminal investigation, are the most compelling evidence of the absence of any criminal conduct".

I said last night on these pages that I had 20 years experience working in hotel casinos. In the mid-90's three corporations began merging with or buying up smaller properties & companies, much like other businesses nationally. The human resources departments within these companies were so powerful, I have a real hard time with her claim that the executives would cover this up. There's just too much to lose. I won't speak of the 'he-said-she-said' allegations, I wasn't there, but the lack of any criminal investigation realistically is bothersome.

The website, TMZ, has posted a bizarre story regarding McNulty. In this story, TMZ claims that about the same time McNulty claims she was assaulted by Roethlisberger, she was carrying on with a married man, a soldier. The soldier's wife, according to TMZ, created a phony email account & began sending McNulty emails, supposedly from Iraq. The woman claims McNulty fell in love with her fictitious soldier & a source from Harrah's said she told people of her relationship & their love for one another. TMZ claims the betrayed wife then shut the relationship down, ceasing the email correspondence. McNulty was devastated, telling co-workers he had been killed in action. She entered a hospital last fall for psychiatric care related to depression. In her lawsuit, McNulty claims her hospital stay was related to the alleged sexual assault & because of doctor/patient confidentiality, it may be difficult to find the truth.

One last thing regarding this messy lawsuit & it's resulting fallout, ESPN hasn't mentioned one word about this story, not one word. I find this very disturbing. The self-proclaimed "World-Wide Leader in Sports" ignores a story as big as this? When I awoke, I turned "Mike & Mike in the Morning" on, as I usually do & they didn't talk about it. Fine, I think, I missed the segment regarding this story, but as I watch the crawl on the bottom of the screen, it just wasn't there. Did I blog about something that was totally incorrect last night? Panic began to set in. So I changed the channel over to "Sportscenter" & after watching a complete crawl series & a "right now" current update, it became clear ESPN wasn't going to acknowledge this story. Why? The Associated Press, Fox News, FOXSports, CBS, CBS.com, SI.com & Pro Football Weekly all ran with this story originally broken by the editor of Pro Football Talk, Mike Florio, who is also an attorney. The power of the internet allowed me to read the court documents, The Reno Gazette, TMZ & a slew of other informative sources. ESPN can't do this? Or is it they choose not too? They didn't break the story, so can it really be news?  It will be interesting to hear their spin on why they haven't reported this story, the longer they go without mentioning it, the worse they will appear. Do they have some sort of a sweetheart deal with Roethlisberger? As I stated last night, I am a big fan of Ben Roethlisberger's, I sincerely hope he is innocent of all charges.  But I'm not naive, Ms. McNulty's story could very well be completely true, let's reserve judgment until more facts come out in this case.
