THIS AND THAT..........WEDNESDAY

Today's injury update begins with Vikings' QB Tavaris Jackson, who returned to limited drills today after spraining his MCL on Saturday. Head coach Brad Childress didn't give a timetable as to when Jackson could return to live scrimmaging. Reggie Bush left this morning's practice, returning before it was over, limping slightly & with an ice bag strapped to his knee. This is the second practice in three days to be cut short by Bush's sore knee. The knee was arthroscopically cleaned out this past spring after a partial micro fracture surgery last December. Brian Westbrook, one of the NFL's premiere warriors, participated in his first practice this morning. Westbrook had ankle surgery in June & wasn't expected to participate in camp at all. He caught every pass thrown his way & was cutting like he'd never had any ankle issues. This is one very tough dude.

Two Eagle players are in Andy Reid's doghouse after a late night traffic stop. Starting offensive guard, Todd Herremans was driving without headlights & after an illegal left turn, was stopped by police. The strong odor of pot was evident when the window was rolled down & after a search of the vehicle, a small amount of marijuana was found along with half a joint under the passenger seat. The passenger, starting defensive end Juqua Parker, admitted the pot belonged to him & he was arrested. Herremans was ticketed for driving without his lights on & an illegal left turn. Players take a mandatory drug test upon their arrival at camp & know they won't have to 'pee in the bottle' again for nearly a month, so this sort of thing is fairly commonplace.

Word out of Arizona Cardinal training camp is Matt Leinart is in danger of slipping to 3rd string & becoming yet another highly touted USC QB flop. Brian St. Pierre, who was brought over to Arizona when coach Ken Whisenhunt arrived from Pittsburgh, is making more plays & better throws than Leinart. This could be a major story as 38-year old Kurt Warner has an extensive injury history & his backup does play from time to time.  With the exception of Carson Palmer & Pat Haden, the QBs coming out of Southern Cal have had very limited success & Leinart might be joining the list of disappointing Trojan quarterbacks.

The uproar over Twitter continues. The NFL has released an official policy regarding Twitter. It is forbidden to use the social networking platform during games, halftimes or during official league functions. The NFL office went on to say "teams can also put additional restrictions on all team personnel". The league also prohibits any play-by-play updates on any platform from the press box or sideline, thereby eliminating members of the press from Tweeting during games. ESPN now has an official policy regarding the use of Twitter by their reporting staff, quite simply, don't do it.  "Personal websites & blogs that contain sports content are not permitted. If you wouldn't say it on the air or write it in your column, don't Tweet it. Prior to engaging in any form of social networking dealing with sports, you must receive permission from the supervisor as appointed by your department head." Pretty specific huh?  As far as social networks go, Twitter might be considered a 'pet rock' ten years down the road. The Urban Dictionary defines Twitter as "a stupid sight for stupid people with no friends, who think everyone else gives a sh*t what they're doing at any given time. Also lacks the functionality of other social networking sites." Amen.

Today's 'real name of the day' is Yourhighness Morgan of Florida Atlantic University. His younger brother, Handsome, is still in high school. Honest.
