CROTCHETY GEEZER HEADING FOR THE STICKS
As some of you know, I live in rural America & I wouldn't go back to Las Vegas or Kansas City, I really love living on the Lake of the Ozarks, here in central Missouri. Though our year-round population is almost minuscule, from mid-spring to Thanksgiving our population soars. This area is the most popular weekend destination in 6 states. Between the tourists & the weekender's, we get an influx of at least 250,000 people every weekend. Because of this we pretty much have everything we need right here. Later this morning, Linda & I will be driving over to the Grand Lake of the Cherokees, in Oklahoma, to visit lifelong friends Mike & Cindy, who have retired there.
Spending 4 days with these two people is always fun, but I was in a semi-panic about it. I've sort of become a crotchety geezer(hey, I can hear you out there), someone who doesn't like change, very unlike the person who convinced his wife to move to Las Vegas in 1985 with no jobs or a place to live. What happened to that guy? To say I'm now set in my ways is an understatement, my 'ways' are set in reinforced concrete. See there's no cable TV, or cable modem at Mike & Cindy's, just a laptop with a wireless card that isn't very fast. I've been married to my PC for over a decade, I have a laptop but I don't like it one bit, except it's mobile. I'm used to pumping out this blog on my PC, I can look at the monitor while typing, I can't do that on my laptop. I'm just not comfortable with it. I have well over 100 bookmarked sites I visit daily in an effort to get this blog right. I think that's going to be out for the next four days, it just won't be possible.
I really love researching & writing this blog, but I need to relax for a few days before the real grind of the regular season starts. What better people to relax with, Linda, Mike & Cindy, but can I separate myself from the internet for all but about 20 minutes a day? I know the answer is yes, ask anyone who knows me, I know how to relax, I can 'veg out' with the best of them. I love to sit in a boat with a Budweiser or on the deck with some Crown Royal(I packed a very large bottle), swapping stories & laughing like a goof.
So there will be some new stuff here Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday, I just don't know how extensive it will be. We're headed for the sticks, taking the last short vacation of the year & all without my PC & cable modem. I'll be back shortly, minus a few brain cells, to get ready for the time of year we love, football season.
