THIS & THAT..........TUESDAY
The Oakland Raiders signed Napolean Harris on Monday. Harris played with Minnesota for 5 years, 2 very disappointing seasons with Kansas City & last year he was back in Minnesota subbing for injured middle linebacker, E.J. Henderson. Oakland's Kirk Morrison suffered a dislocated elbow over the weekend against the Forty-Niners, the injury might be more serious than the Raiders were acknowledging.
The Seahawks cut running back T.J. Duckett on Monday & the word spread quickly that Edgerrin James was in town. This would be a good spot for James, playing with a veteran offense & to not be expected to carry the load.
Carson Palmer's high ankle sprain may force him to sit another week of the preseason. Bengal coach Marvin Lewis said Monday Palmer was "most likely out" versus the Rams.
Cardinal 2nd round pick, linebacker Cody Brown of Connecticut, will miss all of his rookie season. Brown suffered a dislocated wrist & will undergo surgery later this week.
Tampa Bay punter Josh Bidwell is also gone for the season, a victim of a hip injury.
Dusty Dvoracek, Chicago Bears' defensive tackle, just suffered his 4th consecutive season-ending injury. Sadly, Dvoracek is batting .1000, he's yet to finish an NFL season & this one is over before it ever got started with a torn ACL. Dvoracek has been a main cog in the Bear D-line rotation, starting occasionally.
The Kansas City Chiefs traded for 2 offensive lineman on Monday. Andy Allerman & Ikechku Ndukwe were obtained from Miami for an undisclosed 2010 draft pick. Allerman, a 2007 3rd round draft pick of the Saints, was waived & signed by Miami, who currently listed him as their 3rd string center. Ndukwe started 15 games for the Dolphins in 2008 & will be listed on Kansas City's depth chart as giard Mike Goff's backup, for now. Disappointing play by the right side of the Chiefs' line precipitated this trade. To make room on the roster, LB Vince Redd & offensive lineman, Vince De La Puente were waived. Redd was waived just in the nick of time, the NFL office said Monday night Redd would be suspended for 4 games for violation of the banned substances rule.
Jason Campbell may be playing for his job this weeks as his 1 for 7 performance last Saturday against Pittsburgh & his less-than-stellar camp has Redskin owner Daniel Snyder becoming impatient again. Remember Snyder took a real run at Jay Cutler first & then Mark Sanchez in the draft.
Speaking of Sanchez, his outing last night against the Ravens was less than sparkling. Picks, a fumble & a couple of sacks gave Sanchez a proper initiation into NFL quarterback life. He did throw one TD pass.
Lane Kiffin's difficulties at Tennessee continue. WR Gerald Jones will be sidelined for 3-6 weeks with a high ankle sprain. The SEC has repremanded Kiffin for false comments he made about Florida's Urban Meyer, he's had 3 major injuries & 11 players defected to other schools after his hiring was announced.
I know it can happen to anyone, anytime, anyplace, but did you see Bears' linebacker Brian Urlacher get run over not once, but twice, by Giant RB Brandon Jacobs in Saturday night's game? Never thought I'd see it happen, but Jacobs, at 264 pounds, is a load to stop when he has a head of steam, regardless of how many trips you've made to the Pro Bowl.
Today's real name of the day; Tertavian Ingram, wide receiver, Kansas.
