WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR IN TONIGHT'S CHIEFS' GAME
1. Barry Richardson will start at right tackle, but newly acquired Ike Ndukwe, #60 if you want to follow along at home, should get a lot of playing time there. The right tackle play has been abysmal so far with little hope of real improvement any time soon. Ndukwe is their last hope for that significant improvement. This should be their number one priority, getting reliable, productive right tackle play.
2. Todd Haley made a comment about nose tackle Tank Tyler & Tyler didn't appreciate it. Haley was quoted as saying Tank was a "nice guy". In other words, Tyler isn't mean enough when he steps onto the field. Watch for #93 when he's in there, he played better last week, let's see if he can peg his 'mean meter'.
3. The 3 veteran receivers, Amani Toomer(#13), Bobby Engram(#84) & Ashley Lelie(#17) are fighting for what could be just one roster spot. I want to see if they can get open & convert on third down. Can Matt Cassel find a receiver he can rely on besides Dwayne Bowe? After watching Green Bay trot out 5-6 guys who can play WR & then watch the lackluster receiving corps the Chiefs have, boy it's depressing.
4. I'd like to see Donald Washington, #20, play tonight. I haven't seen this 4th round draft pick play a down. He was a monster at the scouting combine, not that any of those numbers guarantees production on the field, but I still want to see where this kid is at.
5. The Chiefs are currently carrying 4 centers, I don't think any of them are very good, the one they just traded for this week, Andy Allerman, is ranked in the Bottom-5 of all guards & centers in the league by a prominent scouting service. Swell. Watch Allerman, #62 & Eric Ghiaciuc, #73 & see if either shows us something.
After watching Green Bay for the 2nd time last night, it just makes me want to strangle Carl Peterson & his scouting department. The Packers are also switching over to a 3-4 defense & they appeared to be light years ahead of the Chiefs. The skill & depth in their receiving corps was also very impressive. Four wideouts who can play right now & 2-deep at tight end. Their scouting department has found the coaching staff the younger players needed to rebuild their offensive line. These are all areas Kansas City is lacking in, the difference is 6-8 players that are far superior to the guys who wear Chiefs' uniforms.
