CASSEL REPORTEDLY OUT 2-4 WEEKS

Jason Cole of Yahoo!Sports.com reports Chiefs' quarterback Matt Cassel has a sprained medial collateral ligament & a sprained ankle. Cole says Cassel will be out 2-4 weeks, indicating his MCL sprain is of the Grade II variety. A Grade I sprain is normally day-to-day or up to a week. He also reports wide receiver Devard Darling sustained a torn ACL & will undergo season-ending surgery this week. No word on the severity of the shoulder injury suffered by cornerback Brandon Flowers.

If the Cassel report is accurate, now what? The Chiefs play in St. Louis Thursday night & then open the regular season in Baltimore, September 13th. Tyler Thigpen certainly laid an egg in his big showcase Saturday night. Want Brodie "handle with care" Croyle back there behind that porous line versus a top-5 defense like the Ravens? This is going to get ugly.

One more thought, the Patriots waived backup QB Kevin O'Connell Sunday, what say the Chiefs pick him up & then they'd have all three New England backups from last season, Cassel, Gutierrez & O'Connell. Seriously, Tom Brady couldn't win behind this line, throwing to these receivers, Chiefs' fans may be looking at 60 sacks of their QB's.
