THIS & THAT..........THURSDAY EDITION

What I consider to be a truly ridiculous rumor has surfaced today. Two sources in Denver, one a radio station & the other a sports blogger, have reported this morning the New York Giants are negotiating with the Broncos for PITA(pain in the ass) wide receiver Brandon Marshall. I don't personally know Tom Coughlin or general manager Jerry Reese, but I can't see a way that an organization, run as well as the Giants, getting involved with one of the league's biggest knucklehead divas. Can you say Plaxico Burress? Their hangover from Burress should be fresh enough to rule this move out completely.

The Jacksonville Jaguars will start rookies Eugene Monroe & Eben Britton at their offensive tackle spots tonight. Coach Jack Del Rio has confirmed they will also start opening day. They were the Jags' top two draft picks in April. Unless I'm way off, they should form a terrific pair of bookends for years. Monroe, a more polished pass blocker, will start at left tackle & Britton, the more physical of the two, will begin his NFL career at right tackle. I love this pairing now & for the future, this is how you draft & build a quality NFL offensive line.

Michael Vick & Commissioner Roger Goodell wil have a short meeting today & Goodell's decision on how long Vick's suspension will be could come as early as tomorrow. I think it will be 2 games, the league doesn't want the media crush that follows Vick to interfere with opening weekend. They want it to be about the games, nothing else. If I'm right about the 2 games, Vick would be eligible to play September 27th, when the Chiefs come to Philadelphia.

Chan Gailey isn't the only high level NFL coach to be canned this week, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers cut their ties with offensive coordinator Jeff Jagodzinski today. He will be replaced by QB coach Greg Olson. Apparently Jagodzinski wasn't on board with the decision to install Byron Leftwich as the Bucs starting quarterback. Jagodzinski, if you'll recall, was the head coach at Boston College in 2007-08 & took the Eagles to the ACC championship game both seasons. He was courted by the New York Jets after the season as a possible head coaching candidate but was told by Boston College officials if he interviewed for the job, he would be fired. Jagodzinski called their bluff & traveled to the Big Apple for the interview. He was fired the next day. Obviously he didn't get the Jets' job, but landed in Tampa as the O-coordinator. Now he's looking for his 3rd different job in 7 months.

The BYU Cougars travel to Dallas Saturday to face Oklahoma in the new "Jones-Mahal" Cowboy stadium. The NCAA released a statement a little while ago referencing the punts-banging-off-the-video-boards controversy. They took the same ridiculous 'do over' stance the NFL has taken. Punt hits the board, balls dead, reset the clock & kick it again. I'll be amazed if this lame ruling doesn't blow up in either the NFL's or NCAA's face before this season is over.

I told you yesterday that Oklahoma State tight end, Jamal Mosley, had walked away from the program. I also told you that Mike Gundy said it was for personal reasons, that Mosley had been a model teammate & was in good standing with the program at the time of his departure. Hold on there Mike. I found out Mosley was busted for pot in July & a woman had filed for a protection order against Mosley. The hearing for that protection order was to be heard yesterday afternoon, just hours after Mosley quit the team. No one showed up for the hearing. Any chance this all went away because Mosley left the state? Not only did Mosley leave Oklahoma, but this morning a Knoxville radio station is reporting Mosley will visit the Tennessee campus on Friday for an official visit to see if he wants to enroll. Since the season hasn't officially started, Mosley could sit out '09 & be eligible to play for the Vols in 2010. What will we find out next besides it's hard to take any college coach at his word?

*UPDATE@2:15 CDT.....It has now been revealed by the court, that the judge unsealed the protection order request after no one showed for the hearing & in that order the woman seeking protection has accused Mosley of raping her in his domitory room the night of August 22nd. She said Mosley took her to his room after they had been "partying" & that she was very intoxicated. She states she woke up in her dorm room & suspected Mosley had raped her. She went to a local hospital to complete a rape kit. A message from Mosley on her cell phone reminded her she had left her digital camera in his room. The camera, her clothing & the bedding from Mosley's rom are now in custody for tests. Good standing with the program huh? How about no distractions before Saturday's big game with Georgia?

I'm becoming hesitant to report 'more-bad-stuff-about-USC' since I told you about coach Pete Carroll thumbing his nose at karma, saying how invincible the Trojans were & will continue to be in the future on PAC-10 media day. I don't want to look as tho I'm piling on. Karma reared it's ugly head again in the form of another starter, defensive tackle Averill Spicer, being lost for at least Saturday's game with San Jose State with a high ankle sprain. That's 2 starters on the D-line out. Regardless of the many starters out for Saturday's game, I think the Trojans could win in their street clothes, these two programs are from  different worlds. His availibility for the trip to Columbus Ohio next Saturday is unknown.

I'll have my picks for college conference champs later this afternoon & a recap of all of tonight's action after the games conclude.
