WHERE ARE THOSE 22 GUYS TODD HALEY REFERRED TO? WE NEED 'EM
Wow, talk about a team that simply doesn't know how to win, that's the Chiefs. Much like the Nebraska-Virginia Tech game yesterday, the Chiefs had no business losing this game. Problem is, they haven't learned how to win & honestly, I don't see another opportunity on the horizon, not with the NFC East the next 4 games, followed by San Diego. That would make it 0-7, & it could get worse.
Let's review a few stats from Kansas City's loss. First downs; K.C. 25, Oakland 11. Total yards; K.C. 409, Oakland 166. Time of possession; K.C. 38:39, Oakland 21:21. Passing stats; Russell 7 of 24 for 99 yards, Cassel 24 of 39 for 236 yards & two interceptions. Penalties; Oakland 7-45 yards, K.C. 9-70 yards. The interceptions & the penalties plus the horrific clock management before half are what allowed Kansas City to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
How lousy is your talent when a guy you sign last Monday, plays today & is your leading receiver? Yes, Bobby Wade led all Chiefs receivers with 6 catches for 72 yards. Some of the play calling was puzzling, I guess a lot of it is dictated by crummy personnel. Why do you throw the ball deep down the middle to your pint-sized, 2nd string 3rd down back? Is this the best we have? I liked throwing the ball on swing passes to LJ. I thought the pass protection was almost adequate, almost. Brandon Albert had a terrible day with penalties & being whipped physically too often. Did it appear many of Cassel's check downs were to guys who were covered? He tried to force the ball into tight spots too often. Tank Tyler led the team in tackles again. Jeez, there was even a couple of Glenn Dorsey sightings. Tell me how in the hell a veteran special teams player like Monty Beisel allows a perfect punt bouncing inside the 10-yard line to roll into the endzone? That was unforgiveable in my book.
Much of Todd Haley's screaming & cursing should be directed at himself, his coaching performance was every bit as bad as anyone in uniform. He really ought to start looking for some of those "22 guys off the street" capable of winning 2 games. Edwards/Peterson didn't leave much to work with, but the way he manages his personnel, I wonder how many of these guys will quit on him before the end of the season.
Bottom line, in the NFL, when you out-gain your opponent by 240 yards, rush for 173 yards, totally dominate time of possession & you're playing at home, you are supposed to win. End of conversation.
Grab a helmet Chiefs' fans, this is going to be worse than we thought.
