CHIEFS' ROSTER CHANGES CONTINUE & MORE NFL NEWS

The Chiefs continued tinkering with their roster after they traded Tyler Thigpen this afternoon. Later today they signed tight end Leonard Pope who played for Todd Haley in Arizona. The 6-8 265-pounder is a 4-year veteran drafted out of Georgia where he caught 59 passes good for 9 touchdowns. Pope caught 48 passes with the Cardinals & 5 touchdowns. They also signed offensive tackle Chris Patrick who was in the final cutdown at the Eagles camp this year. He was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the New York Giants from Nebraska. Former Green Bay starting right tackle Mark Tauscher was also brought in for a tryout. Tauscher has been recovering from a torn ACL that sidelined him late last year. He started 64 games for the Pack. Kansas City cut linebacker Monty Beisel & cornerback Ricardo Cloclough. With all the moves, they still have 2 open spots on their 53-man roster.

The Saints placed 2-time Pro Bowl left offensive tackle, Jammal Brown, on injured reserve. Brown was recovering from a sports hernia operation & was on the PUP list to start the season, so he wouldn't be eligible to return until October 25th. Jermon Bushrod has filled in for Brown & has played very well to date.

A big sigh of relief was heard all the way from Big D as the MRI of RB Felix Jones' knee showed only a sprained PCL. The Cowboy runner should be ready for action in 1-3 weeks.

Another Cowboy might get the boom lowered on him again this week. Left tackle Flozell Adams, fined twice this season for tripping a defensive lineman, did it again last night against Julius Peppers. The game officials didn't spot it or he would have been flagged for the infraction. But game video clearly shows Adams trying to trip Peppers. Since it takes NFL officials several days to review every game tape, look for something bigger in the way of a fine for Adams. He had to give up $12,500 for his trip on the Giants' Justin Tuck.

Be prepared if you watch anything on ESPN in the next 6 days. The Brett Favre/Green Bay Packers hype will be force-fed to you in large doses. ESPN has the matchup for their Monday Night Football game. Truthfully, the Vikings game in Green Bay November 1st is a better game to hype.

Oregon cornerback & kick returner, Walter Thurmond, sustained a devastating knee injury returning a kickoff in the Ducks' loss to Cal on Saturday. Thurmond tore all 3 major ligaments, the ACL, MCL & PCL. He will probably be looking at a 12-16 month rehab. He was a highly rated pro prospect & was at least a 2nd round draft pick. Now the senior won't be able to work out for pro scouts or participate in the NFL Combine before the draft. A similar situation happened to Jack Ikegwuonu in 2008. The Wisconsin cornerback blew out 2 ligaments & fractured his kneecap working out for the draft. He required 2 surgeries & is just now on the Eagles active roster. Admittedly, Ikegwuonu was also facing a burglary charge at the time, he has since been cleared of that charge. For a position that puts such a demand on ankles & knees, his surgery & rehab are crucial for Thurmond to ever have hopes of playing on Sundays.
