CHIEFS CONTINUE TINKERING, YANKEE BOWL WOOHOO & HOW GOOD IS DENVER?

Kansas City continued to tinker with their roster today as they signed linebacker David Herron & cornerback Mike Richardson to their 53-man roster. Both are from the 2007 draft class & both have a connection to the New England Patriots. There's a shocker. Herron, originally from Michigan State, was an undrafted free agent who played in one game for the Pats in '07, moved onto Minnesota where he stayed on the roster, even starting 3 games, until final cut down this preseason. Richardson was a 6th round draft pick out of Notre Dame & played in 10 games for the Patriots last season. Apparently, if you didn't weren't in the New England system or play for Todd Haley, you aren't any good. Seems like everyone they bring in for a look-see doesn't fit into that niche & they're not signed. Come from N.E. or one of Haley's stops? They throw you a bone. Wow.

I told you Cowboy tackle Flozell Adams would get nailed yet again for tripping Julius Peppers Monday night & he did, just not for as much as I thought. The league said since he missed on his attempt to trip Peppers, he would only be fined $7,500. He injured the Giants' Justin Tuck tripping him in week 2 & the fine was $12,500. So I guess the old adage of "no harm, no foul" sort of holds true.

Browns coach Eric Mangini has pulled the plug on Brady Quinn & announced today Derek Anderson would start Sunday versus the Bengals.

Favre, Favre, Favre, aarrrrgh! It starts already! In yesterday's St. Paul Pioneer Press, Vikings beat writer, Charley Walters, speculated on whether or not Brett Favre would play in 2010? Why don't these writers concern themselves with 'can Favre finish the season intact'?  Can he lead them deeper into the playoffs than Tavaris Jackson did last season? Jeez, how predictable.

Seattle will miss QB Matt Hasselbeck & left tackle Walter Jones for one more week at least. Hasselbeck's broken rib hasn't allowed him to even think about practicing, much less playing & Jones' knee is just about there, so he should be ready for their October 11th game with Jacksonville.

WooHoo! Just what we needed, another bowl game. This time it's the Yankee Bowl, played in Yankee Stadium in late 2010 or early January 2011. A 4-year deal was struck to bring the 4th place finisher from the Big East to challenge the 7th place finisher in the Big-12. The 7th place finisher? We need a contract for that? Here's the lamest part of the deal to run thru 2013, if either team isn't bowl eligible(1 game over .500) then Notre Dame steps in regardless of how bad their record might be. Of course if the Irish are in a BCS Bowl game they'll have to scramble to find an alternate opponent. Seems like this one was really well thought out, of course I could be wrong about a game played in a very cold climate between 2 mediocre teams, right?

The 3-0 record of the Denver Broncos have many Chiefs' fans worked up, my wife especially, she'd rather see the Taliban 3-0. Relax Bronco haters, their day is coming, beginning this weekend. After winning on a total fluke in Cincinnati(altho their defense did keep them in the game) they feasted on the hapless Browns & Oakland. They host Dallas this week, win this one & you've got some legitimacy. Next up is New England, at San Diego, bye week, at Baltimore, Pittsburgh, at Washington(who knows how bad this team really is), San Diego again, the Giants, at K.C.(certainly a winnable game), at Indianapolis & at Philadelphia. Get the picture? This team isn't going to the playoffs, they're not going to be a .500 team. I doubt they can win 6 games & they're already halfway there. Take a deep breath, the Broncos aren't going anywhere.
