FAVRE BRILLIANT, ROGERS TOO & THE INJURY STATUS OF 4 QB'S

The Monday night game was a classic, Brett Favre was brilliant, throwing one laser beam after another. He completed 24 of 31 for 271 yards & 3 touchdowns. His passer rating was a whopping 135.3. His successor in Green Bay, Aaron Rogers, was also impressive, going 26 for 37 for 384 yards & 2 touchdowns. Problem was he threw an interception & coughed up a fumble as he was under the gun trying to avoid the Viking pass rush led by Jared Allen. Every time I see Allen wreaking havoc I swear at Carl Peterson for trading him to Minnesota(he had more sacks by himself than the entire Chiefs team last year). Rogers was sacked 8 times, 4 1/2 by Allen & hit another 9 times. Allen forced the fumble & also sacked Rogers in the endzone for a safety which proved to be 2 very big points. Those 2 points made the Minnesota lead 10 instead of 8 & in the last 2 minutes the Packers needed 2 scores instead of one & a 2-point conversion. This made all of the Minnesota bettors, like yours truly, very happy. Favre wasn't sacked & was only touched once in the game, what the Packers concentrated on was stopping Viking RB Adrian Peterson & they did it very successfully holding him to 55 yards on 25 carries & a fumble returned for a score by linebacker Clay Mathews. The rematch will be in Green Bay, November 1st, it ought to be a beauty.

ESPN.com's Bill Williamson, the AFC West blogger, reported tonight that the Chiefs are considering sticking Larry Johnson on the bench & starting Jammal Charles. I don't know if he knows something or he's just speculating. Whatever the reason for this story, I gives me chills. Jammal "Fumbles" Charles carrying 25 times a game? PLEASE! He says LJ is done, he's 30 & he's averaging less than 3.0 yards a carry. I guess after reading the Monday night stats, he'll want the Vikings to bench Adrian Peterson, he didn't average over 3.0 either. Has Williamson seen a friggin' Chiefs game? Has he seen the O-line play? Has he seen Jammal Charles unable to make the first man miss, that is if he can hang on to the ball? Playing behind this line Charles could fumble once a game & average less than 3.0 yards a carry as well. If this is Todd Haley's idea, it scares the hell out of me, I think his time in Kansas City will be short.

By the way, I said today in my Chiefs article that Jammal Charles was a fumbler & I said it again in the previous paragraph. I just did some research as to how often he fumbled. In his junior season at Texas, Charles went into the draft as a junior, he fumbled 11 times. I simply wanted you to know just how prone to fumbling Charles is. Eleven fumbles in one 13-game season qualifies as excessive doesn't it? Great 3rd round choice Carl & Herm.

I watched a peculiar taped interview this morning. Jerry Jones was speaking after their loss in Denver yesterday & he couldn't say enough nice things about the Broncos, he acted as tho his team didn't have much of a chance against Denver. He didn't say one negative thing about his Cowboys, not his normal M.O. When his team fails to win he always knows why they lost & isn't afraid to speak out about it. On the Cowboy front, wide receiver Roy Williams suffered torn cartilage in his rib cage, as many as 3. There is also  several rumors floating around that say QB Tony Romo didn't know what down it was on their last play yesterday. That's frightening, the one person on the field who has to know what down it is, might not have known. The play calling at the goaline was horrible, you throw 2 passes to your 4th receiver who's being guarded by 8-time Pro Bowler, Champ Bailey, this is the best you have? You leave Romo's favorite target, tight end Jason Witten in to block & you throw to Sam Hurd, your 4th receiver? Brilliant call by offensive coordinator Jason Garrett. This team will never make the playoffs.

Surprising fact of the day: UTEP was held to 53 yards of total offense 10 days ago versus the Texas Longhorns. Last Saturday they scored 58 points against 12th ranked Houston. The Miners ran up 581 yards of offense, guess Mike Price really coached 'em up last week.

Raider RB Darren McFadden will be out for 2-4 weeks with a torn meniscus. How are they going to replace a back who can get you -3 yards on 6 carries. I guess I'll ask Bill Williamson, he knows all about running backs & what they should be producing.

If you watched the New York-Kansas City game yesterday, you saw #52, Michael Boley, make play after play from his outside linebacker post. The Giants will have to figure out a way to live without Boley for a while as he is out indefinitely with an injury or condition the team isn't commenting on. The mystery of how it happened or what it is that happened may come out, but for now Giants officials will not comment on Boley status or his condition. Sounds kind of ominous doesn't it? Hope he's O.K. He played a hell of a game yesterday.

Eli Manning injured his heel in yesterday's win over the Chiefs. It was diagnosed as plantar faciitis. It's a strained tendon in the heel & "he can play Sunday if he can stand the pain" according to a team source.

Another ugly injury was sustained by Lion rookie QB, Matthew Staford. He dislocated his left kneecap being sacked by Adewale Ogunleye of the Bears. Doctors popped the kneecap back into place yesterday & there's hope he could play Sunday against Pittsburgh. Owwww!

Oklahoma's Bob Stoops hasn't said much about injured Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford's availability  this week against Baylor. Originally it was thought he would sit out the Miami game & come back for Baylor to work out the kinks before they play Texas on October 17th. Stoops was asked if Bradford could be out for the season & his answer was "I guess so if he walks out of here today & gets hit by a bus". That Bob is quite the kidder huh? What a dumb thing to say. My question would be, is there a chance Bradford and/or his family don't want him getting injured again & killing those huge NFL 1st round draft pick dollars? Another shot on his throwing shoulder could set him back even more, might require surgery, might cause him to miss the NFL scouting combine. I know Bradford turned down huge money to return to OU & take another shot at the National Championship & possibly another Heisman award. There's no questioning his commitment to the Oklahoma football program. But now that the National Championship & Heisman dreams are down the drain, could he be looking out for himself? Jeez, I'm starting to sound like Bill Williamson with all this speculation. I expect Bradford to return to his starting spot just as soon as he's able. Stoops' weird comments did bother me tho, like he knows something the rest of us don't, which is expected.

That brings us to our 4th big-name injured quarterback, Tim Tebow & will he play Saturday night in Florida's huge showdown at LSU? He hasn't been cleared by doctors after his concussion sustained September 26th against Kentucky. Obviously he hasn't practiced & coach Urban Meyer, tho he keeps saying Tebow's fine, hasn't given any type of timetable for his return. Because the SEC has a conference championship game(like all good conferences do), the Gators could still get to a BCS bowl even if they lose Saturday night in Baton Rouge. They would have to run the table & win the championship game to get to that BCS bowl. If things fall right, they could even get back to the National Championship game, but it would be a long shot. This particular injury requires several doctors to sign off on it before the player can return to action. The more doctors are finding out about concussions & head injuries, the more they say time is the great healer, not rushing back to play. Knowing the type of competitor Tim Tebow is, they may have great difficulty in keeping him out of this game.

I've been remiss, several readers have complained about the absence of "Real name of the day". Sorry.

Today's real name of the day: Khambrel McGee, cornerback, Northwestern High School, Miami.
