DENVER IMPRESSED ME, MORE CHIEFS GRIPES & STICK A FORK IN........
I have to say the Denver Broncos impressed me with their unflappable style. They don't get rattled, they're not the most impressive team around, but they get the job done & I won't be surprised if they whip San Diego next Monday night. I will have to say the ball has truly bounced Denver's way in the first five games this season & eventually those breaks will begin to even out. But every "W" put up right now, gives them a little margin when the breaks start to go against them. Josh McDaniel coaches like he has a pair. He gets crazy-mad on the sideline like Todd Haley, difference is, his team produces while Haley's doesn't.
As I watched St Louis center Jason Brown move Minnesota super-nose-tackle all day, I'm thinking to myself, 'why didn't the Chiefs try to sign Brown?' The Rams ran the ball very well against the vaunted Viking front seven & Brown was a big part of it, he moved guys out if that's what the play called for, he sealed them off when it didn't. Brown is coming into the prime of his career, just his 5th season. Hey, Kansas City resigned Rudy Niswanger, but now we're comparing apples to oranges. With the millions in salary cap we didn't spend, is there a reason Scott Pioli didn't even speak to Brown or his agent? It's not like he was adverse to playing for a crummy team, he signed with the Rams alright? I've gone from disappointed in this team to angry. Anybody with me?
I do have a bit of good news for battle-weary Chiefs' fans, LSU doesn't have a player capable of being selected in the top half of round one in the draft. Sadly, the top 6-8 picks will most likely be defensive linemen(all better than what we've squandered our high picks on) & quarterbacks(we've got the $60 million man). Perfect. Last April's draft was loaded with offensive tackles, not defensive linemen, so we take defensive linemen. Beautiful.
After 5 weeks, I believe you can stick a fork in Dallas, Washington, Tennessee, Houston, Jacksonville, all the 1 win teams & of course, the winless teams. Dallas could make the playoffs if they could play Tampa, Kansas City & Oakland 3 times each, but that's about it. I can't see them winning more than 8 games. Washington won't win more than 4 or 5, same with Tennessee, Jax & Carolina. All the rest will come in with 2-4 wins, if they can get 22 guys off the street to get them those wins. Houston is a fraud, so is Buffalo. The Raiders had a nice outing today, they mustered 124 yards of total offense compared with 483 by the Giants. They turned the ball over 3 times & gave up 6 sacks. Pretty hard to top that. But they have one more win than K.C., St. Louis, Tampa Bay & Tennessee. I see impending job openings in Washington, Houston, Dallas, Buffalo, Oakland & possibly San Diego, if they gag again this year. Three of these jobs are decidedly worse than the rest because of their meddling owners, Oakland, Dallas & Washington. Buffalo always wants to get by on the cheap, San Diego has a GM no one can get along with & Houston is probably a decent job. Shanahan, Holmgren & Cowher all should be employed if they want back into the grind.
Today's real name of the day: Hawatha Bell(not Hiawatha), linebacker, North Carolina.
