T.O. BEING T.O., SLEEP-IN SATURDAY & LJ APPEALS SUSPENSION

Here's a gem I saw in The Buffalo News yesterday; "I've been looking at my stats compared to Roy E. Williams over there in Dallas & my goal is to have better stats than him at the end of the season." My goal? You just know those words were spoken by none other than Terrell Owens. His priorities appear to be misplaced. I thought the goal was to win games, make the playoffs, win championships, that sort of thing. Apparently I was wrong. As long as his stats are better than Williams, the fact the Bills suck really isn't that important, at least it isn't to Owens. What a guy.

Michael Crabtree finally made his long awaited NFL debut for the Forty-Niners in Houston last Sunday. He had a pretty decent game, catching 5 passes for 67 yards. Oakland's Darius Hayward-Bey, the WR drafted ahead of Crabtree, had 2 catches for 36 yards, giving him 4 receptions & no touchdowns for the entire season so far. Crabtree wouldn't sign because he wanted more money than Heyward-Bey. He didn't get it, but when their rookie contracts expire, Crabtree will be making more than Hayward-Bey, who may not even be in the league by then.

College football fans can sleep in Saturday morning. The morning slate is truly pathetic. In fact the entire day has but 3 really meaningful games, Georgia-Florida, Texas-Oklahoma State & USC-Oregon. ABC was kind enough to put the last 2 on at the same time in regional telecasts. Swell, thanks a lot. NBC scheduled their weekly Notre Dame broadcast for primetime up against the ABC games. But the Irish are playing 1-6 Washington State, so who cares anyway? Ohio State scheduled patsy New Mexico State right in the middle of their conference play. UNLV looks to absorb yet another beating as they travel to Fort Worth taking on #6 TCU. Kansas plays at Texas Tech in a matchup of Big-12 also-rans. Tech plans to start a redshirt freshman at QB in place of the injured Steven Sheffield & the ineffective Taylor Potts.

Sam Bradford had his balky throwing shoulder tightened up in a 35-minute surgical procedure yesterday. The operation was performed by noted sports orthopedic surgeon, Dr. James Andrews. He won't be able to throw for at least 3 1/2 months. Bradford is expected to enter the NFL Draft next spring.

The hype for Sunday's Minnesota-Green Bay rematch has been somewhat subdued. Brett Favre did stir up some controversy yesterday when he said his current team is the best he's ever been a part of, including the Packers 1996 world championship squad. Leroy Butler, Santana Dotson & Mark Chmura, all teammates of Favre's on that Super Bowl team, all had some negative comments for the Vikings QB. If the makeshift offensive line of the Packers can hold the sacks below 5 & the QB hits under 8, I think Green Bay wins on Sunday.

Larry Johnson was suspended yesterday afternoon by the Chiefs until November 9th. He will miss 2 paychecks at $218,000 each. Johnson planned to file an appeal early this morning, demanding an expedited appeal process. Now that the Chiefs have suspended Johnson, they won't be able to send him home without pay, ala Keyshawn Johnson. He'll have to screw up again, which is a definite possibility, I think he wants to be released so he can sign on with a contender. I believe there are 2-3 teams that would sign him. I heard John Gruden this morning on ESPN's "Mike & Mike in the Morning". He said he thought Johnson still had plenty left in the tank, but Gruden said he couldn't get over the stupidity Johnson showed & that would keep him from claiming Johnson if he was in a position to do so. Gruden said he couldn't understand Twitter nor did he want to understand it. I think the majority of over worked coaches & assistants in both college & the pros don't understand a lot of the social networks. But sadly I think we're going to see a lot more of this bad behavior on Twitter in the next few years.
