LJ KEEPS MORE OF HIS $, FAVRE'S HOMECOMING & MY PICKS

In what may become a landmark case in the NFL, Chiefs running back Larry Johnson had his suspension upheld but his dollar loss cut in half. The league, the Chiefs, Johnson's agent & the NFLPA huddled all day Friday & came to this decision. Because Johnson's troubles originated on a social network, Twitter, this was new territory for all sides in the dispute. It sets precedent in that the league & it's teams can now fine, suspend or both in cases regarding social networks. I honestly thought the Chiefs would finally rid themselves of the pain in the ass Larry Johnson has continued to be. He will come off suspension next Monday, following the Chiefs game with Jacksonville. He will lose only one game check instead of 2, which was the original punishment.

The over-hyped Brett Favre versus the Green Bay Packers will come to a head this afternoon at 3:15 CDT today. I read a lot about this game & one recurring theme was obvious to me. Just like Ray Romano's character on "Everybody Loves Raymond", Brett Favre can't live with people not liking him, at least the people he thinks should like him, like fans from Green Bay. I think Favre is in for the booing of his life from the fans he believes should give him a pass. I just don't see it, most of these fans feel betrayed & I think they'll make those feelings clear this afternoon when he comes out of that tunnel wearing a Viking jersey. Personally I think both sides are at fault but the Packers have moved on & I don't think Favre has. He still feels affection for the Packer fans, but face it Brett, you're the enemy now. The enemy that leads the division also inhabited by the Packers.

Big names not in uniform today include Vikings WR Bernard Berrian, Eagles RB Brian Westbrook & Giant WR Mario Manningham.

The biggest matchups today include the aforementioned Viking-Packer game, the undefeated Broncos visiting Baltimore, Miami traveling to New York for a rematch with the Jets & finally, an NFC East showdown between the Giants & Eagles. Even tho I've pretty much bought into the Broncos, I just can't see the Ravens losing 4 straight, especially at home. The Raven losses were against New England, Cincinnati & Minnesota & each game came down to the wire. I like the Ravens here, I just don't like the 3 1/2 points the game moved to.

I thought Jets coach Rex Ryan made a critical error after his team was beaten a few Monday night's ago by the Dolphins. He refused to give Miami any credit for the win. He shouldered all the blame for the loss, like the Dolphins basically had nothing to do with it. Wrong, the Dolphins played their best game of the season on that Monday night. I think this will be a dogfight, one I'll watch too.

The Giants haven't played well the last 2 weeks, neither have the Eagles. The Philadelphia offensive line has been terrible, they haven't been able to run the ball & they haven't protected QB Donovan McNabb either, surrendering 9 sacks the last 2 weeks. I like the Giants to nip the Brian Westbrook-less Eagles. No wager on this pick 'em game.

I am going to take a flyer for a small wager on the Packers. They were my pick to win this division & if they can keep Aaron Rogers on his feet, I think they will prevail. I laid the 3 points.

In keeping with my "haves versus have-nots" scenario I outlined last Tuesday, I'm laying 10 points with the Arizona Cardinals today. Their opponent, Carolina, has a very shaky quarterback & the Cardinals stop the run very well. Bad combination for the Panthers. Arizona bombed the Panthers in the playoffs last season & Carolina is a shell of that team right now.

I couldn't pull the trigger laying 13 1/2 on the Bears or 16 1/2 on the Chargers. Just too much chalk, I'll be happy with if the Cardinals win by 14.
