ANTI-LJ PETITION FOR PIOLI, PAGE TO I.R. & HALEY'S SIGN
Ever get one of those online petition people want you to add your name to & then forward on to "everyone on your mailing list"? Well Chiefs' general manager Scott Pioli received just such an email this morning from over 1,100 Chiefs' season ticket holders. Essentially what the petition wants from Pioli is to not allow Larry Johnson to become the all-time leading rusher in franchise history. Johnson has 5,996 yards & Priest Holmes holds the team record at 6,070, putting LJ just 75 yards away from the mark. They want him benched or released so that a guy they refer to as "a black eye on this franchise since the day he was drafted". This will be tricky, the NFLPA is watching closely to see what the Chiefs do with Johnson after he returns from suspension next Monday. Pioli can't run his team listening to fans, but he also can't ignore paying customers. If these people act like fans, Pioli has nothing to worry about, if they act like consumers & quit "buying" his product, it will be bad. Stay tuned.
Jarrad Page was placed on I.R. today because of a calf injury that hasn't responded to treatment. They filled his roster spot with Travis Daniels, a cornerback who was in camp but was cut. Veteran Jon Mcgraw, who is also on the injury list, stays in Page's spot for now.
When Chiefs' players returned from their weekend off, they were greeted with a large, new sign in their locker room. The printed sign said "Losers assemble in small groups & complain about coaches & other players. Winners assemble as a TEAM & find ways to WIN". Kinda says it all doesn't it? A bit of a slam on Larry Johnson as well.
First it was Bob Griese & his Juan Pablo Montoya "taco" comment, now CBS' Gus Johnson is being bombarded by the P.C. police. During Sunday's Tennessee Titan game, Johnson gave this call on RB Chris Johnson's 59-yard touchdown run: "Watch out! He's got getting away from the cops speed! Touchdown!" Johnson is African-American & he has apologized, even though he doesn't see any harm in his play-by-play call & neither do I. Lots of people run from the police, all you have to do is watch "COPS" & you'll see every race of people in this country proving their stupidity by running from the police. Relax everybody, he was trying to be clever, I don't think he succeeded, but he was trying nevertheless.
Denver's starting right tackle, Ryan Harris, will miss at least one game, the Steelers on Monday night, due to a foot injury. I told you the Chargers cut Chris Chambers, now a Chief, because they were strapped for linebackers. Some of the blogs are saying he was cut because of a relationship with a woman that has become a distraction. I can't speak to that but I will tell you they signed linebacker James Holt off their practice squad & replaced him with Jeremy Leman, another linebacker.
