ALRIGHT ALL READY, ENOUGH WITH THE BOISE BASHING

I'm growing tired of some of ESPN's "experts" & their bashing of Boise State. I watched halftime of the Va. Tech-East Carolina game tonight & listened to Jesse Palmer & Craig James debate who should be ranked higher, Boise State or Oregon? Since Palmer's argument was similar to mine, I won't duplicate it right. Craig james is of the belief Oregon should be ranked ahead of Boise State. His case was built on the belief, one, the Ducks play a tougher schedule & two, "Oregon's not the same team they were when they lost opening night" to the Broncos on the Smurf turf in Boise. He said Boise doesn't play as tough a schedule as Oregon. That's correct, but Boise is 20-1 since opening day last season & in that time, they've beaten Oregon twice. They won at Oregon last season, 37-32 & they beat the Ducks September 3rd, 19-8. The Oregon team that rolled up 613 yards last Saturday on USC, managed only 152 vs. Boise State. The Ducks didn't record their initial 1st down of the game until midway thru the 3rd quarter. They were 1 for 10 on 3rd down conversions, they had only 31 yards rushing, USC yielded 392 yards rushing to Oregon. If beating them twice in a 21-game span means nothing, why even play the game? It seems like James & those who think like he does, are saying if Boise loses, they lose & if they win, they still lose. This is the same old lame argument I've been hearing about USC the last 4 years when they lose to an unranked team. "If USC played Stanford/Oregon State/Oregon/Washington 10 times, they'd win 9 of them". Here's a news flash guys, they don't play 10 times, that's why, with only a 12-game schedule, every game matters. You have to be ready to play every week.

Part 2 of this argument has real teeth. Today, Western Athletic Conference Commissioner, Karl Benson, told The Idaho Statesman, that ESPN had been working with Boise State to secure a road night game with a BCS Conference school for the Broncos. Benson said even tho the game wouldn't require a reciprocal game at Boise, the folks at ESPN told him every school they contacted, turned them down. How many? How about 10 as of this afternoon. How many teams want to turn down a nationally televised Thursday or Friday night game, at home? Apparently 10 teams do so far. So does this suggest people don't want to schedule Boise State, even on their home field? I believe it does, what other conclusion can you draw from that many schools ducking the Broncos? Everyone remembers their stirring comeback at the Fiesta Bowl against Oklahoma & they don't want any part of that.

The Rose Bowl looks to be Oregon-Iowa. Oregon still has 4 semi-tough games remaining. If Penn State defeats Ohio State Saturday, the outcome of the Iowa-OSU game next week doesn't matter, Iowa is in.

The BCS Championship game should feature Texas versus the SEC winner, Alabama or Florida. LSU could throw a monkey wrench in the works by beating 'Bama this Saturday. I can't see Texas losing the Big-12 Championship game.

The Orange Bowl will take the Big East champ(probably Cincinnati) versus the ACC champ(probably Georgia Tech)

The Sugar Bowl will most likely feature the SEC runner-up. Who they play is unknown, it ought to be Boise State or TCU, but I'm thinking it could be Penn State, provided they beat Ohio State this weekend. That would be a typical bowl committee move, book a non-top-10 team that travels well.

The Fiesta Bowl will feature the "BCS Buster", be that Boise or TCU. Who they drag into to play them would most likely have 2 losses, how about USC? The demand for the Trojans, regardless of their disappointing season & non-top-10 ranking,  will be great. I know FOXSports will be begging for USC. I'd like to see Houston, if they win out, as the other team, but that will never happen.

If six teams go undefeated, all 6 should be in BCS Bowl games, period. Don't reward 2-loss teams while snubbing an undefeated team. Hey maybe the BCS will get it right, but then we have to depend on the individual bowl committees doing the same, not very likely.
