COLLEGE INFIRMARY REPORT, MORE BOISE BITCHIN' & LJ GOES UNCLAIMED

Oklahoma lost 3 starters for the remainder of the regular season on Tuesday. DE Auston English had surgery to repair a torn tendon in his foot. Offensive guard Brody Eldridge sustained a sprain of his AC joint & offensive tackle Jarvis Jones suffered a fractured heel that will require surgery. USC's most productive receiver, Damien Williams, won't be available Saturday for the Trojans game with Stanford due to a high ankle sprain. Cincinnati coach Brian Kelly said on Tuesday backup QB Zach Collaros will start again for the Bearcats on Friday night against West Virginia. Starter Tony Pike "is not there yet" according to Kelly. Pike is recovering from surgery on his left forearm. Notre Dame tight end, Kyle Rudolph, appears lost for the rest of the season due to a shoulder injury. Rudolph is the Irish's 2nd leading receiver.

The PAC-10 has O.K.'d Oregon's reinstatement of running back LeGarrette Blount. Coach Chip Kelly said he could play a limited number of snaps in Saturday's game with Arizona State. Playing 8-12 snaps in the last 3 regular season games plus a certain bowl appearance for the Ducks should keep Blount fresh in the minds of NFL scouts.  Before this season, he was thought to be a late 1st or 2nd round talent. I bet on Oregon last Saturday & they were very unceremoniously dumped from the top-10 after being smoked by Stanford. The final score of 51-42 really wasn't reflective of how close the game was, because it wasn't. The one thing good about Oregon's whippin' was we didn't have to hear so many in the media whining "I'm telling you, if they played Boise again, it would be different". Yea, yea, yea, Oregon couldn't last one week without getting clubbed by Stanford, so I don't want to hear it. Unfortunately, now we'll have to hear the case of "USC ought to be in a BCS game". Let's not get ahead of ourselves, USC has games with Stanford & Arizona left to play. Their pathetic performance in Tempe last week, 1 offensive touchdown, shouldn't get anyone too excited unless they win out.

I told you last week about Boise State having a difficult time scheduling a non-conference game with a school from a BCS automatic bid conference in 2011. They had already been turned down by 10 or more schools. Their are 2 ways to schedule non-conference opponents, home & home or a guarantee game. Fresno State is playing at Alabama for a $1.35 million guarantee. Their willing to absorb a beatdown for huge money. Non-BCS conference schools have been doing this for years. Boise has been offering itself for a guarantee game, but they want $900K-$1 million for the game. Many of the BCS schools would rather pay more for a team they know they can beat. Boise Athletic Director Gene Bleymaier said he had verbal O.K.'s from fellow athletic directors for a guarantee game, only to be called back with a cancellation. Seems the A.D. agreed to the game, then told the head coach who vetoed the whole thing. Bless Virginia Tech, they offered Boise State $1.25 million for a game at FedEx field in Washington D.C. to open next season. You think Oklahoma will be interested in another game in the Jones Mahal with a BCS contender? Let's see, the got beat by BYU, a non-BCS school & they lost their starting quarterback for 5 games. No, I don't think you'll see the Sooners taking that kind of risk again. Ask Oregon how soon they'll schedule a home & home with Boise State, I think the answer will be a resounding "NO!"

If you are interested in moving out to bankrupt California & spending $49 million for a Napa County wine country estate sound like your thing, Joe & Jennifer Montana are selling their "2nd home". The Montana's live in L.A. & "just don't get up there as often as we'd like". Too much, don't you think? If you want a beautiful "2nd home", we have a 4,700 sq. ft. Spec home for sale currently on the Lake of the Ozarks. It's your for just $789,950. Plus you get me & my brother-in-law as your slaves. Landscaping, car & boat detailing, grocery shopping & catering come with the house. It's a much better deal than some olive farm way out in California.

If you watched the Denver Broncos the last 2 weeks, you saw them outscored 45-14 in the second half, only 7 points by the offense. Prior to that, Denver had outscored it's opponents 76-10 after half. In the last 2 games, the Broncos have less than 125 total second half yards in the 2 games combined. So what gives? I think teams are starting to figure out what it is the Broncos are doing both offensively & defensively & Denver doesn't have the personnel to counter. QB Kyle Orton has been brutal in the 2nd half recently & they've had great difficulty running the ball, always a Denver staple.  When they beat San Diego 4 Monday night's ago, I said they had basically won the AFC West. Now, I'm not so sure. With a San Diego rematch, the Giants, Philly & Indianapolis sitll of the schedule, they could be vulnerable. The San Diego game is a week from Sunday, if Denver wins, it's essentially over, if they lose, we'll go late into December before a champion is crowned.

Well, Larry Johnson cleared waivers this afternoon with no claims, no big surprise. Just like the Michael Vick media feeding frenzy, they speculated who might want him & then someone from that team would step forward to say they weren't interested. Johnson was linked to the Redskins, Steelers, Seahawks, Patriots & Texans today. The Pats gave a half-hearted explanation of why they "probably weren't interested". So they might be in the running. Lots of negative talk about LJ too. Like Vick, he doesn't have many people in his corner. He appeared on on the Dan Patrick Show Tuesday & Patrick pushed LJ pretty hard & his answers were total agent-speak. When asked if he was glad to be out of Kansas City & away from Todd Haley, his reply was "I was & still am the biggest Todd haley fan, I am a big Todd Haley fan & I'm a big Scott Pioli fan too." HUH???? He also told Patrick he had absolutely "no anger issues". He makes Tom Cable look like a big cuddly teddy bear. It appears to me, Larry Johnson has some honesty issues to be sure.

Today's real name of the day: Quandon Christian, linebacker, Clemson.
