CRYIN' RYAN-"WE WERE DISRESPECTED" & IS L.J. CURSED?

Jets coach Rex Cryin' Ryan is pretty upset at the Patriots. In Sunday's 31-14 New England win, Tom Brady threw one deep for Randy Moss with about 30-seconds left in the game. Well Cryin' Ryan didn't much care for that. At his Monday press conference he said "I felt disrespected, it's our job to stop them & we did, still I felt disrespected". Well Rex, when your cornerback talks trash all week about his history of shutting down the Brady to Moss connection, they're going to try to rub your nose in it. Cornerback Darrelle Revis did hold Moss to only 34 yards, but Moss did catch a touchdown, unfortunately the remainder of the Jets' secondary was torched by Wes Welker, who caught 15 passes for 192 yards. When you lose by 3 scores, it's tough to claim a victory for Revis. Let's see if Cryin' Ryan can manage an 8-8 record after starting 3-0. I don't see it.

Anyone in the market for an 80,300-seat domed stadium? The Pontiac Silverdome will go to the 2nd highest bidder, unless some else comes forward in the next 45-days. Second-highest you say? Yup, the highest bidder, Silver Stallion Corporation of Michigan bid $20 million for the stadium & it's contents. Their bid was rejected after they refused to sign onto all of the environmental cleanup required at the sight. What would Al Gore say? So, the stadium Barry Sanders ran all over is going to go to Triple Properties Inc. of Toronto for $583,000. From $20 million to $583K???? They were the only 2 bidders. The City of Pontiac has to be disappointed in the bid disparity, I guess there just isn't the demand for 80,000 seat stadiums anymore.

Staying in Michigan, Lion coach Jim Schwartz took little time in responding to Eric Mangini's charges that Detroit had 'faked' some injuries to slow down Cleveland's no-huddle offense. "He's way out of bounds on that, I can't believe he accused us of something like that" Schwartz said during yesterday's press conference. Mangini seems to be grasping at anything that will take some of the heat off him, but accusing another member of the coaching fraternity of faking injuries & such is just sad. After the Jets canned Mangini why did Cleveland race to sign him 4 days later? Bet owner Randy Lerner would like those 4 days back.

One more Detroit related item; Lions' quarterback, Matthew Stafford, the rookie who threw 5 touchdowns passes Sunday including the game-winner with no time left, was named the NFC offensive player of the week. Very deserving. Sadly, Stafford & #1 receiver Calvin Johnson probably won't play in the Lions' one & only nationally televised game on Thanksgiving Day. Stafford suffered an A.C. joint separation on the games next-to-last play & Johnson has an ankle sprain. Trying to get healed on a short week is almost impossible.

Also not expected to play for a while, Rams' quarterback Marc Bulger, who was injured in Sunday's game with Arizona. His backup, Kyle Bollar, will start the next 3-5 games. Arizona QB, Kurt Warner, sustained a concussion in the same game, but there's been no word on whether he will play Sunday at Tennessee.

Let me see if I got this right. The Chiefs suspend & then cut running back Larry Johnson & they win their last 2 games, including one against the defending Super Bowl champs right? Johnson sits out a week after being cut & then signs with Cincinnati who then loses to the Raiders. Even tho starting running back Cedric Benson is inactive because of injury, Johnson got off the bench for only 2 carries, good for 5 yards. Sadly that is below LJ's average yards per carry of 2.7 he boasted with the Chiefs. That's pretty much it right?

Could the handwriting on the wall be more plain? Charlie Weis is toast at Notre Dame. A recruiting trip Weis has made for years out to the west coast for years has been canceled by Irish A.D.Jack Swarbrick. The trip, had in the past, been immediately after the season ended. Swarbrick wants Weis in South Bend on Sunday so the two can have a sit down. Sorry Charlie.

USC's best receiver Damien Williams, will not be in the lineup in Saturday's season finale against cross-town rival UCLA. The high ankle sprain Williams suffered 2 weeks ago sill hasn't healed to the point he can practice. The junior is tough to replace with 45 catches for 688 yards & Williams is also a fine punt returner.

Mizzou senior receiver, Danario Alexander, has 33 receptions for 578 yards & 5 touchdowns in his last 3 games. Alexander has made a major move on most scout's draft boards. In fact he is up to #4 on Mel Kiper Jr.'s list of senior wideouts. What is amazing about Alexander is his double knee surgeries & yet he is never caught from behind in the open field. Three of the best wide receivers in the land will play in  the "Border War" at Arrowhead between Mizzou & Kansas this Saturday afternoon.

The Mizzou athletic department will return a $1.4 million dollar subsidy to the University after Missouri sports showed an overall profit for fiscal 2008. It's gets better in fiscal 2009, which is showing a $2.0 million profit with a month to go. Missouri is one of only 25 NCAA major colleges to show a profit in 2008.

A Thanksgiving trip to Kansas City for dinner with Linda's family will take me away from this blog until Friday. If I decide to make a play for turkey-day, I'll post it tomorrow before we leave. To all of you who read my words on this site, we'd like to wish you a wonderful holiday & please stay safe out there whether you're driving or deep frying the holiday bird.
