THE THANKSGIVING BLUR, McCOY BRILLIANT & 3 TOP 10'S STAY PERFECT

We did the 48-hour Thanksgiving Blur, traveling to Kansas City, having dinner Thursday, watched 5 football games, visited with family & beat it back to the Lake yesterday afternoon. Nice to see everybody, but glad to be sleeping in my own bed, we always miss Chief, our big yellow cat & I'm back in front of my trusty PC.

The pro games Thusday were the perfect sedative along with turkey, by 8:30 we were all alone watching Giants-Broncos & Texas-A&M, everybody else went home or went to bed. I think Colt McCoy moved to the front of the Heisman pack, 173 yards rushing with a TD, 304 yards passing with 4 TD's. The Aggies hung in all evening, but in the end, McCoy was just too much to overcome. His performance coupled with Mark Ingram's less than sparkling, 16 carries for 30 yards, may have killed his chances for the award. It may be down to McCoy, Stanford runner Toby Gerhart, Oregon QB Jeremiah Masoli, Houston QB Case Keenum & Nebraska defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. If Cincinnati's Tony Pike had stayed healthy all season, he would be right in the mix, but missing all or parts of 4 games hurt his chances. He returned to the starting lineup yesterday throwing 6 touchdowns against Illinois.

Alabama remained unbeaten with a 4th quarter drive for the winning touchdown & help from rival Auburn, who committed hari kari with some horrible clock management in the last 1:30. What is it that so many coaches can't comprehend? On the heels of LSU's Les Miles embarrassing clock magic last Saturday, you'd think the guys would be on their toes, especially in a marquee game like the Iron Bowl. Gene Chizik failed miserably, I'll be interested to see if he also fails the explanation like Miles did. It's bad enough to screw up like these guys did, but when you can't even offer a truthful & accurate explanation of what you & your team did down the stretch, one has to wonder if these guys are the ones you need heading your program. Everyone makes mistakes, but tell the truth, say you screwed it up, don't give an explanation like a politician, talk a lot without saying anything useful.

Charles Woodson is not only having an all-pro year for the Packers from his cornerback position, he's making a difference in the lives of a lot of people. Woodson ponied up $2 million for the University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children's Hospital. This isn't a committment over the years or a contribution spread out over several years. Woodson delivered a check for $2 million, God Bless him, I wish some of the better paid players would take a cue from Woodson & lend a helping hand to whatever charity they deem worthy. Donations are down all over the country with double-digit unemployment, people need help, good to see someone doing good without any fanfare.

Nothing on Thursday, but had a small play on Nevada last night & they covered right at the end. Today, I'm going with the following picks;

Missouri(-3 1/2) vs. Kansas at Kansas City

KU's Justin Thornton, a senior DB, said this week "Some of the guys are losing hope, they want it to be over". Well Justin, it will all be over by 6 PM CT. The Chickenhawks have a convaluted equation to get to a bowl game with a 6-6 record. Can't see it, also can't see their focus being too great, especially with all of the Mark Mangino mess. Blaine Gabbert to Danario Alexander combination is the hottest in the nation right now.

Florida State at Florida(-24 1/2)

Tim Tebow's final game in "The Swamp". Inexperience at QB for Seminoles, unusually bad defensive performance for a Mickey Andrews defense this season, Gator's huge, 45-10.

Rice at Houston(-30 1/2)

Best passing efficiency in the nation vs 119th(out of 120) pass defense. Case Keenum still in the Heisman discusion, Coach Kevin Sumlin will try to get his quarterback enough stats to keep him there. Houston 59 Rice 13.
