RAY RICE IS A PINHEAD & A BLACKOUT FOR K.C.?
I used to be a huge fan of Baltimore running back, Ray Rice. Now, not so much. I first saw him play his sophomore season at Rutgers. He was a tough, durable, sure handed productive back with a big heart. He was on Greg Schiano's breakout team, a major contributor along with his sidekick, Jim Leonard in the Scarlet Knights' backfield. Rice went on to the NFL, drafted by the Ravens in the 2nd round. He has become a major force as a pro. Last night after the Ravens loss in Green Bay, Rice launched a real nice east coast elitist tirade. You know the type, anything west of the Hudson River is crap. When asked about playing in historic Lambeau Field Rice replied "everything about this place is terrible. I didn't see anything special, they put us in the middle of nowhere & it's not a real exciting place. How do people live here?" Ray was born & raised in new Rochelle New York, attended Rutgers & lives right on the edge of civilization there in Maryland. How do people live in Green Bay? How can they stand to live in a city not ranked in the top-5 nationally in murder rate, like Baltimore. How can they stand to live in a state that's not in the top-4 in state tax rate like the three you've resided in, New York(1), New Jersey(2) & Maryland(4). Hey Ray, ever hear of 'quality of life'? I love the East Coast, but I wouldn't want to live there. If Green Bay is the middle of nowhere, as Ray Rice so eloquently put it, we probably aren't even on the map.
The Redskins had a couple of player transactions today. RB Clinton Portis was placed on injured reserve after he had difficulty coming back from a concussion he suffered November 8th against Atlanta. The 'Skins also cut their kicker, Sean Suisham, after he missed a 23-yard field goal inside the 2-minute warning Sunday versus the Saints. The kick would've given Washington a 2-score lead & ended New Orleans' undefeated season. Sunday night on NBC's pre-game show, Tony Dungy was questioned about a kicker missing such a crucial, point blank field goal & Dungy responded "I'd have to cut him be fore he cost me my job if I was coaching him." It appears Jim Zorn felt the same way.
The league levied a pair of hefty fines on Tuesday. Chad Ochocinco will find his next check $30,000 lighter after donning a poncho & sombrero on the sidelines after he scored a touchdown Sunday. He 'Tweeted' ESPN's Adam Schefter Sunday morning & said he was going to do something he'd get fined for if he scored a touchdown. Chad's a man of his word. On a more serious note, Cowboy offensive tackle Flozell Adams was fined $50K for the cheap shot he took at the Giants' Justin Tuck. He was fined after week one for tripping Tuck & injuring his shoulder. Adams has taken cheap shots at Tuck before this season as well, just never got fined for them. Tuck has worn him out in both games this year. Flozell "The Hotel" is near the end of his career & seeing Tuck beat him over & over makes it very clear the end is in sight.
Plaxico Burress has petitioned the State of New York for a prison work release. Plax has only served 2 months of his 30-month sentence, probably not going to happen bud. The manhattan D.A.'s office has already said they would fight any work release for Burress.
Tim Tebow said yesterday if he's lucky enough to be drafted(c'mon Tim), he would line up & play at any position his team wanted him to try. Fullback, tight end or quarterback, he'd try any or all of them, he just wants to play in the NFL. He was honest enough to say he wanted to play quarterback most, but whatever happens, he game. Owner Wayne Weaver has made no secret he wants the former Heisman winner, banking on the Florida Gator helping to rescue the Jags & their sagging attendance.
Speaking of sagging attendance, the Chiefs need to sell 3,500 tickets by Thursday afternoon or they will be facing their first TV blackout in 20 years, a string of 155-consecutive sellouts. Unless a company or KCTV buys the tickets, I can't see fans stepping up to buy these tickets. Let's add it up, they're playing another 3-9 team, Buffalo. The economy sucks, the weather sucks & more importantly, the team sucks.
