COLTS GO TO 14-0, CHIEFS BLACKED OUT & MORE SOCIAL NETWORK FALLOUT
The Colts moved to 14-0 last night & I don't see anybody stopping their run at an undefeated season even if it's not a high priority for them. Indianapolis was led by Peyton Manning, duh, what a surprise, with 4 touchdown passes. The Jaguars had a 10-minute advantage in time of possession, they ran for more than double the Colts, but their comeback died inside the 10-yardline with :57 to go. This loss could very well knock Jacksonville out of the playoffs since they now travel to New England & Cleveland, a very tough sweep. Indy, has the Jets & Buffalo remaining, not so tough. They have already clinched a 1st round bye & home field thruout. G.M. Bill Polian & coach Jim Caldwell have already said getting healthy for the playoffs is the number one priority, not an undefeated season. Nicked up DE's Robert Mathis & Dwight Freeney played less than 15 snaps & I think you'll see more of that in an effort to get & stay healthy.
The St. Louis Rams canceled practice Thursday as the Swine Flu has struck several players & management didn't want the players infecting each other, so the healthy ones were given the day off, no word on tomorrow's plans.
Cal running back Jahvid Best will not play in their Poinsettia Bowl date with Utah next Wednesday. He is still recuperating from his mid-November endzone crash against Arizona. He sustained back, neck & head injuries from his fall. Best attempted to leap over a defender at the goaline & was upended, landing awkwardly on his head & back. I don't think you'll see Best back in Berekley for his senior season. It's this kind of scare that sends kids packing for the NFL. If you get hurt, you get paid. If he checks out medically, I think Best will be a late 1st to early 2nd round choice in next April's draft.
Tyronne Hartsfield, the human garbage that shot Jacksonville Jaguar offensive tackle Richard Collier in a car-jacking, was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole on Thursday. Hartsfield shot Collier 14 times. His left leg was amputated & he was clinging to life for over 6 weeks in ICU. Collier is paralyzed from the chest down. Hartsfield had seen Collier in a club, getting a lot of attention from the ladies, which made him angry & he didn't like that custom Escalade Collier drove out of valet parking, so he decided to take it away from him, at any cost. What a horrible cost for so many people.
Kansas City-area Chiefs' fans will not be able to watch their team Sunday, they've finally been blacked out, their streak of 156-consecutive sellouts is over. If you've watched the games at Arrowhead or actually attended one, it's no secret they've got thousands of empty seats, tens of thousands is more like it. Attendance at Arrowhead has been crippled by a crappy economy, crappy weather & a really crappy team. Things are no better across the state as the Rams will also be blacked out. No noon televised football in the K.C. or St. Louis markets.
The revolving door that continues in Washington claimed another victim yesterday. Vice President of Football Operations, Vinny Cerrato, resigned under pressure. Head Coach Jim Zorn should come in about 2 weeks after the season ends. Working for Daniel Snyder, Jerry Jones or Al Davis is very unstable employment.
Many fans of University of Iowa football who actually live in Hawkeye land, are pretty damn upset. In another of the never-ending cable TV battles, Iowa fans are about to get really screwed. Sinclair Broadcasting & Mediacom Inc. have squared off in a battle which is all about money, what else? Sinclair holds the broadcast rights to a number of FOX affiliates & they want more money from Mediacom for their broadcasts. Mediacom says no, their existing deal ends December 31st & there's little hope cooler heads will prevail. Iowa City, Des Moines & Cedar Rapids are served by Mediacom Cable. The Orange Bowl between Iowa & Georgia Tech will be on FOX, just maybe not in Iowa. Parts of Minnesota, Missouri, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia & Florida will also be affected by this mess. The Sugar Bowl, Fiesta, Cotton & BCS Championship will be broadcast by FOX, anyone see a potential problem? As many as 400,000 Iowans will be affected. By the way, the Super Bowl is on FOX as well, oh boy, another Joe Buck/Troy Aikman telecast, I can't wait.
I have long been a big Urban Meyer fan, from his days at Utah to his 2 National Championships at Florida. There's something that has begun to rub me the wrong way about Meyer's Gators. Too many bad apples, 27 arrests since '06. Anyone else thinks that's too many? Thursday, I saw something that just amazed me at it's stupidity. When are young people going to learn, if you put it on any of the social networks, it's there for everybody to see. Be it Twitter, Facebook, MYSpace, YouTube, etc, people are going to see what you put on the worldwide web. Most times it will never go away, so make damn sure you can live with whatever you post. If I was a Florida donor or booster, I'd be pretty sick right now. Here's a couple of your Gator football players & their Facebook photos that have been plastered all over the sports pages, coast to coast. Beautiful. Both players said Thursday the photos were 4 years old. SO WHAT! Leon Orr said it was just a pellet gun. SO WHAT! Lynden Trail said that he was just spoofing gang signs in his picture. SO WHAT! Do either of these knuckleheads understand that perception trumps their excuses about 100-fold? This is the new face of Florida football?
