NON-MIKE LEACH THOUGHTS & NEWS

Two bowl games today, the Humanitarian Bowl on the Smurf Blue field at Boise State featuring Bowling Green & Idaho. This should be a high-scoring game, Bowling Green throws it all over the place & Idaho can't defend the pass. Idaho likes to run & BG's run defense stinks. I'm interested in seeing WR Freddie Barnes again for Bowling Green. No play for me in this game.

The Holiday Bowl hosts Arizona & Nebraska in what should be an interesting game. You can see what a force Ndamakong Suh is for the Husker defense. He's truly something special. Nebraska is #2 nationally in points allowed at 11.2, second only to Alabama. Strange fact about this game; Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini & Arizona head coach Mike Stoops are childhood friends. The game has Nebraska favored by 3, I'm not interested.

Wisconsin made a statement last night in the Champ's Sports Citrus Bowl. Miami ran the opening kickoff back for a touchdown & then didn't score again for over 58 minutes. In between Wisconsin dominated play even tho they only lead 20-7. With so many starters returning, the Badgers have to be considered in the conversation for real Big-10 title contenders. Bad news for Miami involved starting running back Graig Cooper who went down with an apparent knee injury. Today it was feared the injury was so severe, he may miss the entire 2010 season. One funny note about the game, it was played in Orlando & the temperature was hovering just below 50 degrees. The Miami fans were bundled up like they were on a polar expedition, gloves, stocking caps & blankets. The team had sideline heaters & the players, who wore long sleeves, were constantly blowing into their hands, trying to warm them. The Wisconsin fans were, for the most part, in short sleeves & jersey's. The players were in short sleeves & sweating up a storm.

Another promising junior, UCLA's Brian Price, has said he'll jump to the NFL instead of returning to Westwood next season. The defensive tackle was named the PAC-10 defensive player of the year & his performance in yesterday's EagleBank Bowl confirmed his ranking as the 3rd best DT in college football. The 6' 2", 298-pound bruiser is both quick & a mauler.
