A FEW QUICK ITEMS
Look for the Chiefs to sign Romeo Crennel as their new defensive coordinator by Friday. The only thing holding up this deal is determining what to do with '09's D-coordinator, Clancy Pendergast. It's rumored the Pioli/Haley braintrust want him to take a demotion, but stay with the club as a position coach. That's not sitting too well with Pendergast. With the performance of this defense, he ought to be glad he's being offered anything at this point.
Charles Woodson won the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year Award. I thought he deserved the award & won it with almost twice as many votes as runner-up, Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis. Jets' coach Rex Ryan took his guy finishing second personally, scolding writers who voted for Woodson as "not being able to understand the game." Man, this guy has an opinion on everything doesn't he? He ought to write a blog.
After Lane Kiffin's sudden departure was announced on the Tennessee campus last night, the sh*t hit the fan. Students took mattresses & attempted to barricade the football offices in an effort to impede Kiffin's exit from the Volunteer State. A lot of really ugly & obscene signs were put on cars & hung around the campus in hopes Kiffin would catch a glimpse of them on his way out of town. I don't think Kiffin cared the slightest what he had done to everyone who roots for UT. I still fail to see the appeal of this guy. With the success of Urban Meyer & Nick Saban, I think the bar has been set ridiculously high for new coaches. Getting to the BCS title game in 2-3 years will become the standard, people like Kiffin, in the mega-programs like USC, will be measured by in the future.
