POSSIBLE OVERTIME CHANGE, SPROLES & BOLDIN COULD BE ON THE MOVE & POOR URBAN CAN'T GET ANY REST
It's tough to keep a secret when you have 1,500 NFL team reps, another 100 from the league & about 300 media-types in one place. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello confirmed Saturday the competition & rules committee is going to discuss a new overtime plan for the league. It will be up to the owners if it ever is to see the light of day. The proposal looks like this:
If the team winning the coin toss scores a touchdown on their 1st possession, the game is over.
If the team winning the coin toss kicks a field goal, the game is not over.
If the team losing the toss scores a touchdown on their 1st possession, the game is over.
If both teams kick field goals on their 1st possessions, the next team to score in any fashion, wins.
If both teams have a possession without scoring, the next team to score in any fashion, wins.
I wonder what the television networks will have to say about this proposal, I think it will be more about them & less about the owners in the end. Their primetime schedules get messed up every week they have a doubleheader, this could compound the problem. I think the public will like it better, I know I do.
The Arizona Cardinals have made it no secret this weekend, they are looking to trade wide receiver Anquan Boldin. The question is, what are they looking for in return? I'd rather see Kansas City go after Boldin, a receiver who can be the #1 guy over someone like Kevin Walter, who I sincerely doubt has what it takes to be your #1 receiver. Don't be confused, Boldin caught 102 passes the season before Larry Fitzgerald started lining up opposite him. He can be your #1 receiver. Walter's career has blossomed since he began playing with Andre Johnson, he doesn't have #1 receiver production or talent in my opinion. I'd like to see Boldin in Kansas City, but I don't want to give up either of our 1st 2 picks, Atlanta's possibly, but ideally, the best deal would be a player for player trade. Do the Chiefs have anything the Cards desire?
The Chargers have decided to let running back Darren Sproles go into free agency. They already released LaDanian Tomlinson, so this is somewhat of a risk. Sproles is a dynamite return man & history shows us that will lessen his life span in the league. So his chances of being a starter & returner has a very small window. If he wants to continue in his role of 8-10 carries a game & return kicks, he should just stay with San Diego. If he wants something else, he should look into other opportunities.
Woe is me, Terrell Owens is needing another team to infect. The Buffalo Bills said "thanks but no thanks" to Mr. Wonderful himself. I didn't hear if the mayor asked Owens to return the key to the city he was presented with last spring. Despite Chad Ochocinco's pleas, the Bengals have said in no uncertain terms, they are not interested in Owens. That's quite a statement coming from a team that has it's own parole officer & a full time P.R. guy to put out fires generated by their personnel.
Poor Urban Meyer, he's quitting, he's back, he's taking a leave of absence, it's been all of the above since mid-December. Meyer decided on a quick leave of absence between recruiting & spring practice. So he & his wife decided a nice quiet vacation in Hawaii would be just the thing. Sadly on their second day in Paradise, they were awakened by sirens at 6AM. The tsunami warning sirens sounded every hour all morning. The Meyers had to pack up & evacuate to higher ground. Poor Urban.
