2010 DRAFT - OFFENSIVE RANKINGS & CAPSULES - LINEMEN

With just six days to the draft, the time has come to give you my version of a draft cheat sheet. I'll begin with offensive linemen today. The skill position players will come tomorrow.

Offensive Tackle

1. Russell Okung--6' 5 1/4" 307--Oklahoma State--non-stop motor, mean streak, dedicated practice player, super citizen & 4-yr starter. Excellent footwork & extremely long arms, Okung is ready right now.

2. Bryan Bulaga--6' 5 3/8" 315--Iowa--Bad game vs. Michigan's Brandon Graham, superior game in Orange Bowl Vs Ga. Tech's Derrick Morgan. Superior footwork, mean streak, best punch but only 23-game starter.

3. Trent Williams--6' 4 5/8" 315--Oklahoma--Versatile, has played both OT's & C. Very athletic & quick but not overly strong, would be better in a zone blocking scheme. Was beaten a little too often to suit me.

4. Anthony Davis--6' 5" 323--Rutgers--Jr. who has great upside but also high risk because of questionable commitment to the game. Superior footwork, a leaner on running downs & needs conditioning work, flabby.

5. Rodger Saffold--6' 4 5/8" 315--Indiana--Athletic & versatile, had a great East-West Shrine Game. Wish he was more aggressive, doesn't blow anyone off the line but has excellent footwork in passing game.

6. Charles Brown--6' 5 3/8" 303--USC--Converted tight end that needs more mass, muscle & mean. Long arms & huge hands but packs very little punch. Very good footwork & if he gets bigger, big, big upside.

7. Bruce Campbell--6' 6 3/8" 314--Maryland--Ridiculously athletic for size, but those talents don't transfer to the field, right now, he's not a very good football player. Lost in open spaces, on the ground too often.

8. Jared Veldheer--6' 8" 312--Hillsdale(Mich.)--only behind Trent Williams in combine performance, great athlete for his size. Excellent footwork, completely dominated at Div.II level, zero sacks in 4 years.

9. Tony Washington--6' 6" 311--Abeline Christian--Another small school prospect. Near perfect size with very long arms, good strength, excellent footwork. Convicted sex offender as a teen, needs mentoring.

10.Kyle Calloway--6' 6 1/2" 323--Iowa--Slow-footed, under-powered right tackle. Needs a year on the practice squad spent in the weight room. Decent techniques but just not strong or mean enough.

Centers & Guards

1. Mike Iupati--6'5" 331--Idaho--This Samoan is the best G to be drafted since Steve Hutchinson in '01. Superior strength, intensity, effort & versatility. Could eventually play anywhere but center. A monster.

2. Markice Pouncey--6' 4 1/2" 304--Florida--Just slightly behind Iupati, he's very strong & tough, played against the best 2 NT's in the nation. Very high football IQ, can play either C or G right now.

3. Vladimir Ducasse--6' 4 3/8" 332--UMass--Haitian born, could play G or RT, long, strong arms, powerful hands & plenty tough. Big upside with patient coaching, will only get better & is highly motivated.

4. John Jerry--6' 5 3/8" 328--Ole Miss--Weight down from 350, A G who could play RT in a pinch. Excellent run blocker but very average pass blocker tho I think he will be better with weight loss. Strong & tough.

5. Jon Asamoah--6' 4" 305--Illinois--Little upside, he might be as good as he can be. Limited size-wise & short arms. But he's very smart, tough, mean & nasty. Game is important to him & might be a better C.

6. Mike Johnson--6' 5" 312--Alabama--Limited athletically, lacks enough functional playing strength. Is a push, shove & steer blocker, doesn't overpower anybody. Assignment sound tho & shows a mean streak.

7. Zane Beadles--6' 4" 310--Utah--Slow-footed, underpowered former LT. Projects inside to guard or center. Might not be aggressive or mean enough to play inside, pushed around too much.

8. J.D. Walton--6' 2 1/2" 300--Baylor--Strong, tough & aware, he could be a starter right now in a zone-blocking scheme. Moves his feet well & pass blocks very well with excellent blitz awareness.

9. Shawn Lauvao--6' 2 7/8" 315--Arizona State--Played both G & LT. Projects inside with excellent functional strength & decent footwork. Plays too high & gets stood up too often. Quick & agile.

10.Joe Hawley--6' 3" 297--UNLV--Started at both guard & center last 3 seasons. Powerful upper body & tough short area blocker, powerful punch. Looks kinda dumpy but he gets it done, play after play.
