CHIEFS' MOCK DRAFT - SO WHO'S IT GONNA BE?
The rumors flowing out of One Arrowhead Drive say the Chiefs are going to pick, who am I kidding? Scott Pioli has the whole place on lock down, nobody's saying anything, fearing for their jobs if they breathe a word about the draft. So this is yet another journey into what I call, logical speculation. I have no realistic way to allow for a trade, so I'm going to post my guesses the old fashioned way. This is the last of the draft cheat sheets. You can see everyone of them on one scroll to the bottom. Enjoy the draft!
Round 1(#5) Russell Okung--OT--6' 5 1/4" 307--Oklahoma State
I see the Redskins selecting Trent Williams right in front of K.C. He's a more athletic tackle with more speed, something very critical for a zone blocking scheme, Mike Shanhan's preference. Okung solidifies this O-line, no question about it. It's the right move to secure another quality lineman.
Round 2(#36) Golden Tate--WR--5' 10 1/4" 199--Notre Dame
Explosive runner after the catch, a true play maker, something the Chiefs don't have in their receiving corps.
Round 2(#50) Koa Misi--OLB--6' 2 1/2" 251--Utah
Chiefs need a bookend for Tamba Hali who's good against the run & can get to the passer, this is the guy.
Round 3(#68) Torell Troup--NT--6' 2 1/4" 310--Central Florida
This defense desperately needs a space-eating, run-stuffing hulk in the middle.
Round 4(#102) Larry Asante--S--6' 212--Nebraska
Excellent tackling in-the-box safety who is a major factor in run support, a real need.
Round 5(#136) Clifton Geathers--DE--6' 7 1/2" 299--South Carolina
Extreme NFL pedigree, brother, father & uncle all play/played in the league. Ideal size & strength, needs patient coaching & a kick in the ass. Longest arms I can remember in any draft, 37 3/4" & the biggest hands in this draft.
Round 5(#142) John Skelton--QB--6' 5 1/4" 243--Fordham
Big, strong-armed, small school developmental prospect, maybe Matt Cassel isn't "the guy."
Round 5(#144) Joe Hawley--C/G--6' 3" 295--UNLV
Has started at both positions, very strong, durable, long arms with big powerful hands & a very high football IQ. Plays with a mean streak, he's a mauler.
Should the Chiefs make trades that change their number of draft picks, I'll reshuffle the deck & post new picks. On Sunday, I'll post a list of undrafted prospects who might be a good fit for the Chiefs.
