SOME PRE-DRAFT THOUGHTS & ANSWERS
No new home for Big Ben, the suspended QB looks to be staying in Pittsburgh. Reportedly there have been conversations between the Steelers & three teams. Two have been identified as Arizona & Oakland, the third hasn't been confirmed. I don't think this is going to happen.
The Raiders are shopping running back Darren McFadden, another year & they'll be shopping Darius Heyward-Bey.
The Eagles are said to be looking for a trading partner so that they can acquire safeties Eric Berry or Earl Thomas. Defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul is also a possibility. If they want Berry, they'll have to come to the Chiefs, if Thomas is the target, either Jacksonville or Miami would be likely trade partners. The Eagles have the 24th pick in round 1 & two picks in round 2, #37 & #55.
Commissioner Roger Goodell made an excellent point in a morning interview regarding a pending rookie salary cap. He said teams were going to commit about $600 million in guaranteed money for players in this draft. He wants much of this money shifted to veteran players, at least half of it. "When a prospect gets $30 million guaranteed & he's a bust, that money leaves our system, we want to keep it in our system" Goodell added. "I think there's something inherently wrong with a system that rewards someone who hasn't proven they can play in this league & the guys who've already proved it are having to play for less" he said. He's 100% right, this is one area of the new collective bargaining agreement that both sides agree upon so far.
The Chiefs will open their regular season in primetime. The Chargers-Chiefs contest will be the second half of the opening Monday night doubleheader. The Ravens-Jets will open the doubleheader, kicking off at 6PM central time, followed by the Chargers-Chiefs at 9:15 local. Owner Clark Hunt had requested the Chiefs get an opening weekend primetime game to showcase the newly renovated Arrowhead Stadium. He got his wish & Chiefs fans who have complained about not playing a home game at night for many years, got their's as well. Now we'll hear the bitching "it starts at 9:15? It's on a school night?" get over it & get used to it, as this team improves, they'll have more of these Monday night affairs.
My favorite coach, Herm Edwards(you do recognize sarcasm even in print, right?) just predicted Tim Tebow would be the Steelers' first round draft pick. Alllllllllrighty.
Quick answer for James, I love Myron Rolle, but as an in-the-box safety, I like Nebraska's Larry Asante much better. For DigDoug, my five most overrated players would be: Alabama NT Terrence Cody, USC safety Taylor Mays, Florida DE Carlos Dunlap, Florida State CB Patrick Robinson & LSU WR Brandon LaFell. Thanks to John C. - Adam - MizzouManiac - LuvsRednGold - Leena - Jacob J. & Steve for the nice emails, welcome to you all & thank you for coming.
