QUICK THOUGHTS BEFORE THE BEGINNING OF DRAFT DAY 3

As I read Jason Whitlock's column this morning, it provoked a couple of thoughts. Whitlock's Kansas City Star piece talked about the solid citizens Scott Pioli was drafting. Team captains all as well as academic overachievers & off-field contributors. I applaud the acquisition of such people, there's too few in the league it seems. I have a few names I'd like to put out there for today.

Myron Rolle, a strong safety from Florida State, ought to be available in round 5. He graduated from Florida State in 5 semesters before attending Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. Not the most instinctive safety out there, but you don't have to worry about him embarrassing the franchise in the Power & Light District.

Since the Chiefs haven't drafted a single linebacker or defensive lineman to improve a truly horrid defense, why not take a developmental quarterback? Four possibilities at this position, Northwestern's Mike Kafka, Fordham's John Skelton, Jevan Snead from Ole Miss & Central Michigan's Dan LeFevour.

Back to the solid citizen's for a second. I wanted Koa Misi of Utah & Dennis Pitta of BYU, both Mormons, both solid citizens as well. Both filled a need, especially Misi & Pitta was clearly a more productive, healthier prospect.

Linebacker Mike McLaughlin of Boston College would be an excellent selection today for the Chiefs. Defensive captain, an overacheiver who is a hitting, tackling machine. Please, please............can we draft a defensive front-7 player who can actually fill a hole & knock somebody on their ass?
