RAIDERS WANT A REFUND, BOWE WAS "MISQUOTED" & BIG BEN CLEARED TO REJOIN THE STEELERS
The Oakland Raiders have asked for a refund from former #1 overall pick JaMarcus Russell, one of the bigger refunds, like $9.55 million. They claim Russell was paid thru the 2012 season, but his agent said today, all the money Russell has been paid was guaranteed money from his rookie contract. The Raiders are stuck, at least I believe they are. But they have had a history of not paying people off properly. Mike Shanahan & Lane Kiffin come to mind. Unfortunately, Russell already has the money, so I don't see him giving it back, he worked really..........uh......well he showed up fairly consistently for that money & damnit he's wants to keep it. Many of the Raider linemen have quickly become enamored with new starter, Jason Campbell. Left tackle Mario Henderson said the best thing about Campbell is that when a play calls for a 7-step drop, he takes a 7-step drop. This is vital to the edge blockers, knowing exactly where the QB is going to be so they can direct pass rushers wide of Campbell. Russell got confused a lot, he just dropped till he stopped, the number of steps wasn't that critical was it? Another thing that has got many Raiders excited is how good last year's #1 draft pick, Darius Heyward-Bey, has looked so far in OTA's & mini camp. He caught all of nine passes all season last year but so far he has looked like a #1 selection. With Campbell, some improved O-line performance, a healthy Chaz Schilens & a vastly improved DHB, the Raiders can be an offensive force this season.
The Baltimore Ravens have joined the New England Patriots in their efforts to make the "In-stadium" experience much better for fans. They intend to broadcast the NFL Redzone Channel on flat screens all over the stadium. Concourses, concession stands even the rest rooms will have the Redzone Channel. This allows the in-house fan to keep up with other games around the league. Who cares? This may come as a shock to you, but people bet billions of dollars on football games & keeping up with your wagers is a priority to those bettors. Fantasy football owners also want to keep apprised of stats of the players on their roster. Being able to see every score as it happens, will make both parties feel a lot more secure. With the advancement of technology, the league wants to be able to rent portable devices, about the size of an IPhone, to fans in the stands, so they can dial up any game currently being played. This might become a reality within 3 years. It would be a new source of income for the league & it's owners.
Dwayne Bowe came forward on Thursday to say "he was misquoted" in the recent ESPN The Magazine article where he threw a some of his current & former teammates under the bus saying "they imported girls into the hotel in San Diego." Reading his explanation of the misquote attributed to him was pretty scary. How this guy made grades good enough to stay in school while at LSU is incomprehensible. He explained "The way he took it was totally not the way I said it." HUH??? There were other quotes from Bowe that were every bit as bizarre as that. I didn't understand much of what it was he was trying to say. Now before you got riled up, start calling me a hater or worse..........a racist, relax. When you do something really stupid, be a man & face the music. If you were misquoted, take the reporter to task & deny what he wrote. If he fabricated part of the story & then attributed it to you, tell your coach, tell Scott Pioli & they will deal with ESPN. But for all of you who believe this, I have news for you. The magazine's editor said late Thursday afternoon the reporter kept the tape of his interview with Bowe & what was printed was Bowe's words, verbatim. I've heard people charge "I was misquoted" for years, athletes, politicians, musicians & movie stars have all made this claim. Many times they're absolutely right, there are media people who have an agenda. But there are also many professional journalists who tape everything & keep those tapes. Apparently this is one of those times. Dwayne Bowe is going to be O.K. provided he quits talking about this & gets off to a good start in training camp. Maybe all this embarrassment will finally motivate him to focus on how disappointing he's been & refocus on his rather sizable potential.
So the doctors who did the evaluation on Ben Roethlisberger have presented their findings to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell & he is going to allow Big Ben to return to OTA's & training camp beginning next Tuesday. This does not finalize any decision by the commish to set his suspension at 4 or 6 weeks, that will come later. I would still be interested to find out if Roethlisberger's numerous concussions had anything to do with his truly horrible behavior when out in public. I've been a huge fan since his days at Miami of Ohio, but his brutal treatment of women makes my skin crawl & unless his head trauma is the cause of it, I question how long it will be before he repeats some of this behavior. During Roethlisberger's 1st season in Pittsburgh, he began dating pro golfer Natalie Gulbis. They were young, rich & shared a passion for golf. They dated for about 9 months & now she's made an attempt to get back into his life. Gulbis has won over $3.7 million on the LPGA Tour & with her superior business & marketing skills, parlayed her winnings into an estimated $20-25 million. She has 11 endorsement deals with companies like Cannon, Michelob Ultra, Taylor-Made, EA Sports, MasterCard & others. She's done all of this on her own. That's what attracted Donald Trump to her, extending an invitation to appear on the Celebrity Apprentice last year. She called Ben last Monday & they played golf together twice this week. Afterward she stated "Ben is really a sweet guy & I hope we can see more of each other." Ben ought to seriously consider a woman like this & not a coed who has stars in her eyes & a blood-alcohol level of .23.
