QUICK SATURDAY UPDATE
Updating the condition of Chad Jones, New York Giants 3rd round draft pick from LSU, who was injured in a wreck yesterday morning, he is reportedly "out of danger." Whether he is able to run or play football again is secondary, a hospital spokesman said yesterday "the doctors were struggling to save his leg." After 7 1/2 hours of vascular & orthopedic surgery, Jones will thankfully remain whole.
Updating the Michael Vick birthday party shooting, the victim is expected to be released from the hospital today. Virginia Beach Police say Vick is "of no interest to us in the shooting." Lingering questions surrounding Quannis Phillips, a co-defendant in the dog-fighting trial, at the party remain unanswered. If the Federal government determines Phillips & or Vick violated their parole by being at the same party, both could face a return to prison. Then there's the question of the party itself, promoted by Redskin cornerback DeAngelo Hall & Vick's brother, Marcus(thrown off the Va Tech FB team & a convicted felon). They sold tickets to the party & Virginia authorities want to know who profited from this fandango.
An anonymous reader asked me where I thought former Philadelphia Eagle running back Brian Westbrook would eventually land. Westbrook, one of my favorite backs, was released by Philly after suffering twin concussions last season. He's has been cleared to play for some time now, but where will he play in 2010? My best guess would be in Minnesota. The Vikes have Adrian Peterson & Toby Gerhart currently at running back. Neither is the ideal "3rd down back." Westbrook is a superior receiver out of the backfield with 426 career receptions. Minnesota let their former 3rd down specialist, Chester Taylor, go in free agency. Westbrook & Favre would make an excellent 3rd down duo.
Have you watched any of the World Cup soccer matches? If you have, you've heard one of the most annoying sounds, at least to my ears, ever created. I am speaking of the vuvuzela, the long, plastic horns that are blown incesantly during soccer matches worldwide. Thankfully, at least for my ears, some college conferences as well as a few professional teams have already put in rules for these vile noisemakers & in some cases prohibited their use altogether. Striking a blow against noise pollution, woohoo!

Think the Chiefs have issues at safety? Since Lovie Smith became the Bears' head coach in 2004, Chicago has started 40 different safety combinations, that's right, I said forty.
