NEW TECH COACH TRASHES BIG-12, CHIEFS BREAK THE ICE & DWAYNE BOWE IS AN IDIOT- PART II
Two quick notes regarding yesterday's post, I received quite a lot of feedback concerning the head injury portion of the post as well as the Conrad Dobler part. I will respond to all of your thoughts in a day or two. Secondly, absolutely no one called me an environmental illiterate, not one negative comment. Maybe I spoke too soon, maybe it takes a few days to properly formulate just the right snarky comment. We'll see. I have 14 family members here for sun & fun on the water, so I'm sort of distracted with guests, grocery shopping & meal prep, my sister Ann & I carry the culinary torch during these family fandangos. Sadly my wife, an accountant, is always buried for the first 4-5 days of every single month, so no vacation for her. Tonight was my turn to feed the masses, tomorrow is Ann's, so it all works out with this very slow news cycle currently in football. I will try to have 5 or 6 new posts a week till training camps open.
Texas Tech head football coach Tommy Tuberville made his first remarks about the shrinking Big-12 on Tuesday & he didn't do himself any favors with conference brass or the Big-3(Texas, A&M & OU). Tommy, never a shrinking violet in his tenure at Auburn, said "I don't see the Big-12 lasting very long after what happened recently." He clearly pointed the finger at the Big-3 saying "back in the SEC even Vanderbilt got the same money as Florida, but in this conference you got a couple of teams that pull down so much more than the remainder of the teams & in the end, that doesn't work. I think you'll see teams who consistently draw the short straw continue to look for an out." Tuberville is 1000% correct, but you wouldn't see the conference's other new coach, Kansas' Turner Gill, uttering such truths. Tuberville has always been like this & if he sees the Big-3 beginning to flinch whenever he speaks, he will pour it on believe me. When he the man at Auburn, he liked talking trash, especially when it was aimed at in-state rival Alabama. When Tuberville gets a whiner on the hook, he can be relentless. Plus, I question just how long he wants to stay in this league anyway, Tuberville liked being in the SEC way too much. He might continue with the brutal comments figuring he's out of the Big-12 within a couple of years.
Nebraska said at their adios to the Big-12 press conference they didn't feel they were obligated to pay the "exit fee" clearly spelled out in the conference bylaws. The Huskers didn't get any support from fellow, soon-to-be-ex-Big-12er, Colorado. A university spokesman said Tuesday they were working on their exit strategy & trying to figure what the final tab would be for their "exit fee." He said "we know we're going to have to pay, we just don't know how much it will end up being." Tom Osborne sends his regards.
The big Super Bowl ring raffle being conducted by the New Orleans Saints is doing exactly what they intended it to accomplish, raise a helluva lot of money. A Saints' spokesman said Tuesday the raffle total has reached almost $500,000 as of Sunday. The raffle($2 a chance) will continue until September 3rd & the drawing will be opening night when the Saints host the Vikings. The ring is an exact duplicate of the version players receive. The winner of the ring, made by Tiffany, will also get all taxes paid. It's a beautiful ring & it could be yours if you visit www.saintsgulfcoastrenewal.org

UCLA coach Rick Neuheisal had his top-10 recruiting class blown up on Tuesday. He dismissed incoming freshmen Shaquille & Paul Richardson(no relation) & Josh Shirley after all three were arrested last Saturday for stealing a purse on campus. This is another case of having so much to lose & just $57 to gain. Brilliant decision.
The Chiefs finally signed a draft pick, 5th rounder Kendrick Lewis. The former safety from Ole Miss signed a 4-year deal for an undisclosed amount. It's good to see them finally get a draftee's signature on a contract. Training camp is just around the corner, it would be wonderful if not one single solitary practice was missed because of unsigned contracts.
Here's a quote to file away in the old memory bank. New York Jet running back LaDainian Tomlinson said Tuesday "I'll win a Super Bowl, no question, absolutely." Notice the "I'll" where normally you'd see "we?" This is a very selfish comment from a former star who has become a very selfish has-been. This team could be a major disappointment this season.
About five weeks ago, I wrote a post called "Dwayne Bowe is an Idiot." This will be Part II. I mentioned earlier we're in the slowest part of the football calender, nothing but contract holdouts, a few serious injuries to star players & some arrests. And then there's Dwayne Bowe, Chief knucklehead. This Chad Ochocinco wannabe continues to point to me, me, me. Instead of talking about his devotion to pass catching(he's led the league in pass drops the past 2 seasons), Bowe wants to talk about ESPN The Magazine misquoting him. There is almost nothing going on football-wise, so he goes on 790 the Zone in Atlanta to repeat his claims those creeps at ESPN are trying to make him look bad. A spokesman from The Magazine said last month they had tapes of the interview conducted with Bowe & he was welcome to hear those tapes anytime. They also claimed the the words printed in the story were Bowe's, verbatim. So after Bowe once again tried to discredit The Magazine, Gary Belsky, Editor in Chief had a response.
"As we have said, we will happily allow Mr. Bowe the chance to listen to our recording of his interview, in the event he forgot he made these comments. He has not asked to do so. We have not aired the tape because on the recording, he offered more lurid details than we published & because he named several teammates as having participated in the off-hours activity in question."
Honestly, this is a bigger deal since it's so slow right now, but this guy obviously doesn't get it. He's clueless, I've said this many times right here on these pages, when you're in a hole, stop digging! This would have all but died out, but he keeps dragging it out of mothballs so he can get a little attention, his #1 goal in life. He doesn't want to talk about dropped passes or suspensions or being overweight or his new offensive coordinator, Charlie Rice or the team owners, the Clark family. Yes, he said these things too. The day may come when Dwayne Bowe actually makes the Chiefs a much better team, but don't hold your breath, I think this will be his last year with Kansas City, the Weis/Haley/Pioli trio will totally sour on him after a few more dropped passes & his patented no accountability. Yes, Dwayne Bowe is an idiot.
