VICK'S TRAVEL IS RESTRICTED, T. BOONE IS AN UNHAPPY BILLIONAIRE & JARED ALLEN KNOWS HOW TO THROW A GOLF EVENT

Michael Vick is no longer free to move about of his own free will. After the shooting at his 30th birthday party, the feds have restricted him to Pennsylvania & that's it for now. Because of this restriction, he's missed a couple of personal appearances that he had been paid for in advance. One was a youth football camp this weekend in Raleigh, North Carolina. The camp, which charges $175 for a 2-day football experience, one of those days with Michael Vick, went on without him on Saturday, but the promoter is really unhappy with Vick. He said he received a phone call from one of "Vick's people" at 2AM Saturday morning advising him Vick wouldn't be attending. He also stiffed a celebrity golf tournament bearing his name in Florida on Sunday. He was already paid for that one too. How much longer before the Eagles pull the plug on the Michael Vick comeback tour? It's true they don't have great depth at the quarterback position, but the horrible P.R. hits Philly keeps absorbing as long as Vick is on their roster have to be a concern to owner Jeffrey Lurie.

Miami might be down a starting inside linebacker for the season. Channing Crowder sustained a foot injury that may require surgery & if it does, he's finished for the year. This would be a huge loss to the Dolphin defense.

Knoxville Police officer Robert Capouellez remains in serious condition after being kicked in the face several times by a University of Tennessee football player. The off-duty cop was attempting to breakup a bar brawl that had spilled out into the street Friday night in downtown Knoxville. He was knocked to the ground & kicked twice in the face, according to witnesses, knocking him unconscious. Sophomore safety Darren Myles was arrested for the assault & has already been dismissed from the team. Two other Volunteers were also charged with several misdemeanors relating to the fight.

Georgia coach Mark Richt suspended sophomore running back Dontavious Jackson for the first 6-games this fall after being charged with 6 different felonies & misdemeanors. The felonies were DUI & leaving the scene of an accident, you can probably figure out the rest.

Preseason All-American Quan Sturdivant decided to "enhance" his notoriety by being arrested over the weekend. The North Carolina linebacker was charged with possession of marijuana. No word yet on any disciplinary action to be taken by Tar Heel's coach Butch Davis.

There were rumors floating about that linked former Texas Tech coach & T. Boone Pickens, bazillionaire & the largest donor to Oklahoma State University. The rumors were that Pickens had just about reached his limit with current Cowboy coach Mike Gundy & was talking to Leach about a new offensive coordinator, a new offense & maybe, just maybe replacing Gundy. T. Boone stepped up Sunday & said it was all bunk, "I'm tired of leaving the stadium with my head down." He said at his age, waiting isn't an option "I'm 82 years old, I'm not on some 20-year plan." Pickens gave the athletic department over $160 million & nearly as much  for other departments & the general scholarship fund. I guess that gives him a little influence around Stillwater.

For those of you who are familiar with Jared Allen, you know that the phrase "free spirit" doesn't begin to describe his personality. The 3-time Pro Bowl defensive star, a mullet with a smile, lives his life in a different way from most other Americans. After two DUI's, he gave up drinking & he's still the same guy, minus the dangerous drinking & driving thing. He visits our troops in the Middle East on a regular basis & it's his connections to those service personal that inspired a golf tournament he sponsored over the weekend in Scottsdale Arizona. He wanted to raise money to convert homes for disabled veterans & hopefully building a few new ones as well. Imagine a day-night 18-hole tournament, 9-holes in daylight, 9-holes after dark, Allen called it "Night Ops Golf." Imagine a Marine drill instructor screaming at you during your back swing. Imagine being forced to dive down a slip 'n slide if you can't make a specified green in regulation. Apparently Jared Allen can imagine stuff like this because they were all part of his tournament. In his own words, "I just didn't want it to be another lame-ass golf tournament." It certainly wasn't. Some of the participants, who ponied up big bucks to play in Allen's event to help vets, wore fatigues, got a buzz-cut hairdo & two guys even painted old golf bags in desert camouflage to get in the spirit. It's great Allen takes the time to create such an event for veterans & it's equally great people line up to pay for the privilege to play in such an event. I hated to see Allen traded away from Kansas City, but if Brandon Albert pans out this year, getting Jamaal Charles & Albert in trade for Allen was a good deal. Thanks Jared for helping our injured vets.
