SABAN SAYS "NO", REVIS HOLDOUT BECOMING UGLY, MACLIN VS. JACKSON & WHY I LOVE STEVEN SLATER
Alabama coach Nick Saban has said no to pro scouts wandering his sidelines during practices. Saban is smokin' hot about the trouble agents have caused his coaching brethren. He doesn't like the distraction pro scouts can cause just with their presence. He will allow scouts very limited access on a couple of days, but won't allow any conversation between his players & the scouts. If he adheres to this policy, it could affect Bama's recruiting down the line as kids will know the pros won't have much opportunity to put an eyeball on their talents. We'll see how long this lasts.
On Tuesday morning a plane went down in the Alaska wilderness killing 9 people on board including former U.S. Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska. Along with Stevens was the father of 3 NCAA Div. 1 football players. According to HoosierHQ.com, Bill Phillips Jr. perished in the crash. His sons, Indiana freshman TE Paul Phillips, Virginia sophomore TE Colter Phillips & Stanford senior offensive lineman Andrew Phillips were all sent home to mourn with other family members. Their younger brother, 13-year old Willy, was one of the four crash survivors & is in stable condition.
The holdout of Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis has become really ugly. He wants a new contract paying him 50-cents more than the highest paid cornerback in the NFL, Oakland's Nmandi Asomugha, who makes nearly $15 million. The Jets have told Revis no, as he still has $20 million remaining on a contract extension he signed less than a year ago. Jets' owner Woody Johnson said in a pair of interviews Tuesday he didn't expect Revis to play for the Jets in the upcoming season. Revis is really dug in & he has a lot of support around the league, including his own coach, Rex Ryan, who said Revis was the league's best defender. Denver's Champ Bailey, who will make $12.5 million this year, said Revis was the best corner in the league. The Jets drafted cornerback Kyle Wilson in the first round last April & he is taking Revis' reps so far in camp. I was very high on Wilson coming out of Boise State after his Senior Bowl week, but he's not Revis. Several Jets, including the coach, have talked a bunch of sh*t since the end of last season & I speculated earlier this team could implode from the pressures they created for themselves. This Revis deal isn't good for the Jets & I don't see any end in sight.
The banged-up Denver Broncos have reached out to sign former Oakland Raider running back Justin Fargas. He passed a team physical Tuesday evening & the Broncos said they intend to sign him on Wednesday. Their depth at this position is non-existent right now with Knowshon Moreno, Correll Buckhalter both sidelined for the foreseeable future. Denver signed LenDale White, who like Fargas, had been unemployed for sometime, but now he's dinged up & Josh McDaniel is getting desperate for experienced running back help. So now "Huggy Bear's" son will be a Bronco, man am I showing my age or what?
Minnesota wide receiver & return man, Percy Harvin, missed his 10th day of training camp after the death of his grandmother. Missing 14 total practices is bad enough, but now the word out of Vikings' camp is Harvin is once again suffering from the migraine headaches that caused him to miss extensive practice time last year.
Eagle starting wide receivers DeSean Jackson & Jeremy Maclin got into quite an beef during Tuesday morning's practice. According to reporters from the Philadelphia Inquirer, the pair got into a heated argument that lasted several minutes & as practice progressed, they continued to have serious discussions. After practice, Maclin said "there was nothing to it, just a difference of opinion, we're fine." Jackson hasn't spoken to the media since camp began, he's bucking for a contract extension, which could be the source of the spat with Maclin, who is making 1st round money compared to Jackson's 2nd year contract. If that's the case, picking a fight with your teammates isn't the way to boost support within your own locker room.

Chiefs' rookie tight end Tony Moeaki continues to miss practice with an undisclosed leg injury. The Chiefs moved one of the practices we were going to see, indoors where fans & media aren't allowed. Not too happy about that decision.
Did you hear about the flight attendant for Jet Blue who, after being banged in the head by a flyer's luggage & then listening to a load of profanity aimed at him, got on the microphone, laid down his own profanity barrage, grabbed a couple of beers & slid down the planes emergency slide. The 28-year veteran had reached his breaking point. Steven Slater is my new hero, he did something I wanted to do many a time in Las Vegas after eating a load of sh*t from a customer. People who work in the service industry are forced to endure this kind of treatment from time to time. Every once in a while, you say "enough is enough." Yesterday was just such a day for Slater. Remember if you decide to tear into a waitress, bellman or a flight attendant, 99% of them sincerely want you to be happy. If they live on tips, 99% want you to be happy. If they are salaried, 99% still want you to be happy because they don't want the aggravation that comes with incidents like the one that sent Slater down the emergency slide & into an open-ended suspension. I once told a crap player "I'm going to pinch your f 'ing face off if you keep telling me what to do" which got me in trouble with the boss & an early exit with no tips. Was it worth it? Sometimes it is actually, otherwise it builds to the point you want to go on a shooting spree. Too many people are unbelievably rude & abusive & this behavior has only gotten worse over the years. It's the major reason I got out of the casino business, I knew I would cuss out some goof & get suspended or punch some deserving clown & get fired. But today, Steve Slater is my hero.
