COLLEGE FOOTBALL'S TOP TEN GAMES OF THE YEAR, IN MY OPINION
#1 Boise State vs. Virginia Tech
Where & when? FedEx Field(neutral site), Washington D.C. 7PM CDT on ESPN
What's at stake? If Boise State wins, I see no way they're not in the BCS Title game. If
they lose, I don't see them in a BCS bowl game. Huge national implications for Va Tech as
well.
#2 Texas vs. Nebraska
Where & when? Lincoln, Nebraska, October 16th
What's at stake? Revenge for the Cornhuskers, They want this game more than any on
their schedule. Longhorns want another shot at the BCS Title game, winning here is a must.
#3 Oregon vs. Oregon State in "The Civil War"
Where & when? Corvallis, Oregon(OSU) December 4th
What's at stake? This game has decided who went to the Rose Bowl from the PAC-10 the
last two years. Oregon may be the conference front runner now that USC has a post
season ban & is ineligible to win the PAC-10. The Beavers can wreck Oregon's "return to
Pasadena" dreams.
#4 Ohio State vs. Iowa
Where & when? Iowa City, Iowa, November 20th
What's at stake? Quite possibly the Big-10 title if neither stumble along the way. Iowa gets
Penn State, Wisconsin & Ohio State in Iowa City.
#5 Georgia vs. Florida in "The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party"
Where & when? Jacksonville Florida(neutral site), October 30th
What's at stake? The SEC Eastern Division very likely. The Gators have dominated the past
two seasons but them Dawgs should be much tougher this year. Plus a win in this rivalry is
huge for recruiting.
#6 Oklahoma vs. Texas in "The Red River Shootout"
Where & when? Cowboy Stadium(neutral site), October 2nd
What's at stake? The Big-12 South & possibly the BCS title game. Horns have won the past
two.
#7 TCU vs. Utah
Where & when? Salt lake City, Utah, November 6th
What's at stake? The Mountain West Conference Championship plus the chance to be a
BCS buster & make one of the big bowls as an at-large team.
#8 West Virginia vs. Pitt in "The Backyard Brawl"
Where & when? Heinz Field, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, November 26th
What's at stake? Probably a spot in the Big East Conference Championship Game, with the
winner getting a BCS Bowl bid. This game has been owned by the underdog the past few
years.
#9 Florida vs. Alabama
Where & when? Tuscaloosa, Alabama, October 2nd
What's at stake? Really nothing more than an undefeated season & national ranking. Since
these two could meet in the SEC Championship in December, it takes some of the luster off
this contest. But hey, it's the Gators & the Crimson Tide, that's enough to get excited
about.
#10 Houston vs. SMU
Where & when? Dallas, Texas, October 23rd
What's at stake? Very likely the Conference USA Western Division crown. But what really
intrigues me about this game is scoring. June Jones' run & shoot versus Kevin Sumlin's
spread. I'll predict right now this game will carry the highest over/under total of the
college football season. I'd put it at say, 79 1/2 & that's the opening number, provided
everyone's healthy.
