TYSON JAX OUT, DELHOMME TOO, RAVENS GET STRONGER & SOME OF YOUR MAIL

Chiefs' defensive end Tyson Jackson, fresh off the best game of his short career, has a strained MCL & will not play this Sunday. He might miss next week's game with San Francisco as well. Other Chiefs' injuries include Tamba Hali(foot), Ryan O'Callaghan(groin) & Wallace Gilberry(back). Dexter McCluster was the recipient of the AFC's special teams player of the week award, no surprise there, you run back a 94-yard punt return & people will notice. Former Chief safety DaJuan Morgan was signed by the Colts yesterday to bolster their depth since all-pro Bob Sanders underwent biceps surgery. Morgan, a 3rd round draft pick in 2008, never panned out in Kansas City, in fact he flew so far under the radar, a lot of people didn't even know he was on the roster.

The Cleveland Browns, Kansas City's next opponent, is probably going to be without their starting quarterback. Jake Delhomme hasn't practiced this week & was seen yesterday wearing a walking boot to protect his sprained ankle. Backup Seneca Wallace has taken all the snaps so far this week. Former Longhorn Colt McCoy is the third quarterback in Cleveland.

Both Eagle starters that suffered concussions in Sunday's loss to Green Bay, quarterback Kevin Kolb & middle linebacker Stewart Bradley, failed their testing yesterday. Neither is allowed to practice or even attend meetings until they can pass the neurological screening the league now requires after a concussion has been diagnosed.

Packer quarterback Aaron Rodgers is openly lobbying for Green Bay to bring in Buffalo running back Marshawn Lynch to help out since Ryan Grant was placed on injured reserve. The Pack is scanning the waiver wires for another running back. Rodgers & Lynch were teammates at Cal & according to Aaron, it would be a major upgrade to their depth. Lynch is extremely talented but is also a real head case. He was never in trouble at Cal, but almost constantly since he became a Buffalo Bill. The Packers are such a conservative franchise, I don't see Lynch becoming a Packer anytime soon.

The San Diego Chargers & Detroit Lions could see their home openers blacked out. San Diego needs to sell most of their remaining 7,000 non-premium seats before 1 PM this afternoon. The Lions are closer to getting the blackout lifted with only 3,000 seats to peddle. With Matthew Stafford out for the Lions, selling more seats might be a very tall order, I look for the club to pick up the remaining seats on the $.34 on the dollar plan to avoid the blackout. Detroit has had enough disappointment in the past two years with high unemployment & a football team that has won only 2 games in 2 years, I think it's in the team's best interest to keep their fans as happy as a team starting from square one can be.

The Baltimore Ravens got a little tougher today when they did not put cornerback Ladarius Webb on the team's injury list. Webb had been rehabbing from off-season knee surgery. He returned to full practice yesterday & will most likely be activated for their game in Cincinnati this Sunday. The former starter missed most of training camp along with running mate Fabian Washington & Dominique Foxworth. Getting healthier at the cornerback position makes Baltimore look even better as my AFC Super Bowl pick.

Tom Brady complained about the Patriots' fans the other day. He didn't like looking into the stands in the 4th quarter this past Sunday & seeing thousands of empty seats. He was unhappy with fans who decided to try to beat the traffic while the game was still going. The Patriots, led 24-3 at half & after 3 quarters 31-17. "We need them, it's their job to stay involved, don't leave" Brady said. "It's their job?" I always thought a Michigan education was pretty impressive, somehow Brady must have missed his Business 101 class when the lesson was "the fans are the customers & criticizing the fans is stupid." Why go down this road? It's a no-win argument, you only look petty & whiny. In an era of possible blackouts due to poor economic conditions nationally, pissing off your paying customers seems really short-sided, especially when you're trying to convince the paying public you're the right side in the negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement. I heard ESPN's Mark Schlereth say this morning "more teams ought to figure out how to get their fans into games like they do in Kansas City. That's the loudest stadium in the entire league, I know, I played in all of them, I always thought we had the best fans in Denver, but there's nothing like playing in Arrowhead. Did you see that game Monday night, how their fans made it so hard on Phillip Rivers & the Chargers?" Having stood on the sideline for the entire game at Arrowhead, I can tell you no matter how loud you imagine it is, in fact, it's louder. In fact, it's ridiculous, Chuck & I were shouting at each other, still unable to make out what the other was saying & we were three feet apart. Plus, these fans know when to crank it up & when to tone it down. There's "crowd envy" amongst NFL players not wearing Chiefs' uni's.

Steve Spurrier has cut tight end Weslye Sanders from the South Carolina football program. Sanders was being investigated for a trip to a South Beach house party by the NCAA, but Spurrier had already suspended Sanders for other infractions relating to the team. Another bad decision compounded by Tweets will cost this young man millions. He was considered by many to be the 2nd best tight end prospect in college football. But sitting out a full season will cause him to plummet down draft boards league-wide.

Another part of the fallout from the Reggie Bush mess that goes unmentioned is the forfeited scholarships, 30 all told. That's 30 kids that won't get a chance to play college football in one of the country's top programs or receive the opportunity to get an excellent education. The lack of accountability really bothers me. I've seen numerous people in the media attempt to justify what Bush did, where does it all end? Forget integrity, forget honesty, I'll take what I want, when I want it & that has become more & more acceptable. The "everybody does it" response isn't an answer, it's a piss-poor rationalization for truly irresponsible & selfish behavior. This attitude is part of why this country is in the mess it is.  On that note, let's move onto your mail.

To jjjr22, HuskerHellonU & EAAnarchy, thanks for reading, but to your collective assumption of "everybody does it" I say you're wrong. Not everybody does it, I've heard that crap for years when an insurance claim gets padded, you steal HBO from the cable company or fudge on a tax return. Are you telling me "everybody does it" makes things better in the long run? Think about it for a week & get back to me if you still believe "everybody does it" is a long term solution.

To KCKrissy, thank you for reading, but no I am no closer to projecting the Chiefs as AFC West champs because of the Monday night game. I still think the Chargers are the better team, they have been a perennial slow-starter under Norv Turner, going 5-7 in September prior to Monday night, but making the playoffs every season. It has been noted here that you predicted the Chiefs to win the West before the season started & if that happens I will be thrilled to admit I was wrong & you were right.

To JakenBake, thank you for reading, yes, I would put Michigan quarterback Danard Robinson at the top of the Heisman hopeful list right now. Over 800 yards in just 2 games, both won by the Wolverines, convinces me if he can stay healthy, he'll be in the hunt in December. As for my others, I'd also have Boise State QB Kellen Moore, Ohio State QB Terrelle Pryor, Kansas State RB Daniel Thomas & Stanford QB Andrew Luck.

To Yerblogbites, thanks for reading, but I don't know where to start, you basically criticized every major point I've made for almost two full weeks. I do appreciate you were able to write about 400 words of negative commentary without one single curse word or sexual reference. I don't know if I'll be able to change your mind on anything, but keep reading, maybe you'll find something you & I agree on, maybe.

To OkieDokie, thanks for reading, but I can't understand your contention I have somehow slighted your beloved Sooners. I wrote Saturday evening "and the #17 ranked Florida State Seminoles were shelled by Oklahoma 41-17." What do you want a separate post on the Sooners? If that's what you're looking for, I'm guessing there are probably a hundred bloggers online posting nothing but Sooner news. Google is perfect for finding such sites. I cover all football, not just the Sooners. Bob Stoops has a good team again to no one's surprise, but let's wait a few weeks before we give them the Big-12 title, the Heisman & the BCS title O.K.?

To SMSGTFlores, thanks for reading, yes, the Derrick Washington story is sad, what a waste, he's just about ruined his athletic future & a young woman has been terrorized. He was in the 5th-6th round on my list going into training camp, but after his weight loss & increase in both quickness & speed, I thought he might climb into round 4. Not now, if he can stay out of jail, he's an undrafted free agent at best.

To 1Hawkeye1, thanks for reading, but you got the wrong impression about my opinion of Tony Moeaki. If you will read everything I wrote about the former Iowa Hawkeye back in the spring, You would see I was very high on his ability & potential, just brutally realistic about his extensive injury history. I want to see Moeaki become an all-pro tight end with the Chiefs, that's how my team gets better. But, I don't want to play the "I told you so" card, I want him to be great. If he's hurt more often than not, you won't need me to beat my chest saying "I was right." I have other things to gloat about, someone's injuries, real pain, isn't on my list of "I told you so."

To CarlainKs, thanks for reading, yes, I've kept my Chiefs/Mizzou shopping urges under control lately. Once the season starts, I have to hit over 300 sites a day, watch 30-plus games & pump out 2,500 words or more per day, I simply don't have the time.

And finally, to IluvTebowURanidiot, thanks for reading, I have but one thing to say. Be careful what you wish for, you may get it. Kyle Orton wasn't the reason your donkeys lost the Jacksonville game, in fact, he's playing at a pretty high level, he just needs more support around him. If you'll read some of the stuff I've written about Tim Tebow, you'll see I'm not a hater, I do know that he's a very long way from being a top-flight NFL quarterback tho. No, I don't think much of the Lawrence Maroney trade, he's a fumbler who is hurt too often. You already have a couple of injury-prone backs in Moreno & Buckhalter, why grab another? I thought we had moved past the sexual references, but you fouled your email right at the end, too bad, if your mom reads any of this stuff, you're liable to get grounded.
