SAINZ TAKES A SHOT AT HER DEFENDERS, LJ OUT, VICK IN, BEAVERS GO BLUE & BIG-10 SPECIAL TEAMS ANYTHING BUT SPECIAL
Ines Sainz doesn't sound appreciative to the AWSM(Association of women in sports media), in fact she's taking shots at the group. Sainz said in an editorial in Tuesday's El Universal, a Mexico City newspaper, she doesn't know why the AWSM made such a fuss over her perceived slight while covering the New York Jets. She said she was unsure how the AWSM created such a furor without ever speaking to her. She wondered why the AWSM never contacted her about the incident. Christine Brennan of USA Today & National Public Radio, also the founder of AWSM, said on CNN's Reliable Sources Sunday that how Ms. Sainz was dressed was unimportant. "The minute she was issued media credentials from the Jets, her manner of dress was no longer an issue" Brennan said more than once. When questioned by the show's host, Howard Kurtz, if she thought Ms.Sainz dressed provocatively, Brennan replied with "the minute she was issued media credentials from the Jets, her manner of dress was no longer an issue." So what do we take away from this much ado about nothing? The Jets owner, Woody Johnson had to give Ms.Sainz a personal apology. The league office also issued an apology. The league has told all 32-teams they will be required to hold sensitivity training for everyone in their organizations. The AWSM apparently wants nothing to do with Ms. Sainz & her Maxim magazine persona. It appears Ms. Sainz likes being called a hottie, she wants nothing to do with the AWSM, she likes parading around fields & locker rooms in her version of professional attire.

Sainz on field at the 2009 All-Star Game
The Larry Johnson experiment in our nation's capitol has ended with his release from the Washington Redskins late Tuesday. I think maybe his last carry in Sunday's loss to the Texans was the last straw. On a 3rd & 2 he managed a 10-yard loss. See ya LJ, I think you can go back to abusing women in bars without the pesky interruption of practice.
Eagles coach Andy Reid said late Tuesday he was "going with Michael Vick indefinitely." Reid said "he's playing out of his mind right now." He better continue playing like that, I think Kevin Kolb's psyche may be severely damaged.
The Oregon State Beavers will travel to Boise Idaho this Saturday evening for a nationally televised game with the 3rd ranked Broncos. Yes, it will be on Boise's infamous "Smurf Turf", the blue field that the Broncos have a a staggering 63-2 record on since 2000. So one very wealthy donor over in Corvallis wrote a check & the Beavers' practice field was painted blue Tuesday morning. The theory is it will take the shock out of waliking out onto the field in Boise come Saturday night. Alrighty then. I'm thinkin' it's going to take more than that to whip Boise State at home. The Beavers will really look ridiculous if they get smoked like they did on their last trip to Boise, a 42-14 beatdown in 2006.

The Oregon State practice field as of Tuesday afternoon
The Big-12 & the two schools leaving said conference, Nebraska & Colorado, have come to a financial agreement over their withdrawal fees. Nebraska will required to pay $9.255 million & Colorado $6.863 million. They won't have to write checks for those amounts, the funds will be withheld from the TV revenue checks & ticket revenues earned as visiting teams. If Nebraska plays in a BCS Bowl game, they'll be required to pay $500,000 less since the bowl payout is big for all conference members.
I told you about the horrid special team play by Wisconsin & Iowa last Saturday. Thanks to ESPN.com's Pat Forde, a Mizzou grad, I read all kinds of Big-10 special team horror stories. For a conference that claims to be the best(it's not even close to the best), I'd be pretty embarrassed by the problems Forde brought to light. Take a look, see what you think.
Ohio State--last in the Big-10 in kickoff coverage, 117th(out of 120) nationally in net punting. Buckeyes have already given up both a punt return & kickoff for touchdowns in their first three games.
Iowa--Lost to Arizona Saturday night after getting a punt blocked, a kickoff returned for a touchdown & a blocked extra point.
Wisconsin--Arizona State scored on a kickoff return, had another returned to the Wisconsin one-yardline.
Michigan--Last nationally in punt return average, suffered a blocked punt against UMass & is 1 for 5 in field goal attempts.
Minnesota--USC ran back a kickoff for a touchdown Saturday & another went for 71 yards.
Except for Minnesota, these are all ranked teams, pretty shoddy & if they don't improve, this sort of thing will get you killed in a bowl game.
