SOME NFL NOTES & THOUGHTS FOR SUNDAY
San Diego Chargers left tackle, Marcus McNeill, signed his restricted free agency tender on Saturday. Since the Chargers out him on the non-football inactive list, he isn't eligible to return for 3 more games after tomorrow. Which should give him enough time to get into playing shape. Wide receiver Vincent Jackson is still on the outs with the team, I can't see him ever playing for San Diego again.
Right tackle Jeff Otah of the Carolina Panthers has yet to start a game because of a knee injury. He won't go tomorrow when rookie Jimmy Clausen makes his NFL debut as a starting quarterback. Otah is the Panthers best run blocker & his absence has stalled their offense.
The Baltimore Ravens will truly celebrate their home opener Sunday. The Ravens finished last season with road games in Pittsburgh & Oakland. Then they traveled to New England & Indianapolis in the playoffs. They opened the 2010 season with road games against the Jets & last week in Cincinnati. The 0-2 Cleveland browns come calling today & I expect the Ravens to roll them quite easily in their first home game in their last 7 starts.
I have a sneaking suspicion the Jacksonville Jaguars are going to ruin Michale Vicks first start with the Eagles, just a hunch. There are nine 3-point favorites on the NFL slate this week, I think at least 5 of them will lose straight up.
Watch the matchup between Chiefs' center Casey Weigmann & San Francisco nose tackle Aubreyo Franklin. The Chiefs won't be able to help him much, our guards will have to deal with ILB Patrick Willis, the NFL's leading tackler the past three years. Look for Charlie Weis to spread his offense out with Chambers, Bowe & McCluster, in addition to Tony Moeaki. The Niners have little secondary depth & keeping them on the field as much as possible could be a viable strategy. Matt Cassel must protect the ball, no picks & don't hold the ball forevever in the pocket.
No Sunday plays until I hear the adjusted numbers, too many little lines.
