WILDCATS RIDE COFFMAN TO WIN, TEXAS BLOWS, MIZZOU GOES, HUSKERS GET BY, 'BAMA RALLIES & WHO WON THE "BIG PILLOW FIGHT?'

Undeterred by an hour & a half rain/wind/lightening delay & a sluggish offense for three quarters, the Kansas State Wildcats scored 14 4th quarter points. QB Carson Coffman threw a 58-yard touchdown to Aubrey Quarles & then scrambled into the endzone from 7-yards out with just :24 seconds left to win 17-13 Central Florida held Daniel Thomas to just 76 yards in 22 carries, by far, his lowest total of the season. The 4-0 Cats get next Saturday off before playing 4-0 Nebraska the following Thursday in Manhattan.

Just before the skies opened up in Manhattan

If you didn't see the UCLA-Texas game this afternoon, it was really amazing. UCLA went into Austin & flogged the Longhorns 34-12. A week after holding Texas Tech to minus-14 yards rushing at Lubbock, the Bruins ran all over Texas for 264 yards. The Bruins could only muster 27-yards passing but rode the 5 turnovers Texas coughed up to a lopsided victory. Texas had a 16-game home winning streak snapped by the Bruins, who came into the game 1-2, losing to K-State & Tennessee. After watching the OU-Cincinnati game tonight, the Sooners barely held on for a 31-29 win, the Red River shootout next Saturday just doesn't hold the anticipation it normally would. Both teams look to be down this season, I don't see an undefeated team in the Big-12 South in 2010.

Michigan went thru three quarterbacks in their 65-21 beatdown of Bowling Green. Sensation Denard Robinson injured his left knee in the 1st half, he didn't return. He was relieved by true freshman Devin Gardner, who threw a touchdown & ran for another. Sophomore Tate Forcier went 12 for 12 with a touchdown to round out a 23 of 26 passing day for the Wolverines.

Ohio State rolled over the outclassed Eastern Michigan 73-20. The Eagles have lost 16-straight & they complain about Boise's schedule. I have no idea how good the Buckeyes are, they play so many awful teams it's hard to tell. In their game with Miami, the Hurricanes imploded so like I say, I just don't know how good they are.

The Missouri Tigers scored on the first snap of the game, a 19-yard fumble return & the rout had just begun. Mizzou coach Gary Pinkel pulled the plug on his offense in the 3rd quarter again, leading 51-6. With a first down at the Miami of Ohio 12, Pinkel instructed backup quarterback James Franklin to "get a yard & get down." Four consecutive QB sneaks left the ball at the 3. The goal Pinkel set before the game was to successfully run the ball & for 3 quarters, they did, 264 yards worth. The 4-0 Tigers have a week off before Colorado comes to Columbia to begin the Big-12 conference season.

Since Nebraska looked so good last week, they decided just to take the day off Saturday, winning 17-3 over the winless South Dakota State Jackrabbits, a Division 1AA institution. They never really got into any kind of a rhythm, the game was scoreless after one quarter & the Huskers only scored 3 points in the second half. They have 11 days off before they take on K-State. Bo Pelini said after the game, "their day off was today(pointing at his bench), there won't be any more days off till we win again."

Arkansas had everything going for them but couldn't stand prosperity. Razorback QB Ryan Mallett threw two 4th quarter interceptions, one leading to Alabama's go-ahead score, the other securing it. He also threw a pick in the endzone in the 2nd quarter, the Hogs had it in their hands but couldn't seal the deal. It's tough to beat Alabama & given a couple of opportunities, the Crimson Tide responded in the second half, outscoring Arkansas 17-3 to take the 24-20 win & secure their #1 ranking.

Boise State had a somewhat pedestrian 37-24 win over the Oregon State Ducks. It was a good win, but probably not what the Broncos needed. Quarterback Kellen Moore played well, throwing 3 scores, their defense bottled up the Ducks for the 1st half & nearly doubled Oregon's total yards, 469-237. WR's Titus Young & Austin Petis were superb, look for them on Sundays down the road. What Boise got was a nice primetime showcase. But unless Ohio State, Alabama, Oregon etc lose a game or two, their BCS title aspirations are a pipe dream.

Stanford traveled to Notre Dame & just whipped their ass, 37-14, the Irish didn't score a touchdown until late in the 4th quarter. Jim Harbaugh, his Heisman hopeful QB, Andrew Luck, know they have a tough trip next Saturday to Eugene Oregon to face the Ducks. But after watching game film of the Ducks game in Tempe, they might be salivating. The Sun Devils racked up 597 total yards against Oregon, it was the 7 turnovers that were the main cause of the 42-31 Oregon win. ASU QB Steven Threet can't compare to Luck, so the Ducks could be in for a long night Saturday. Don't miss it, the game kicks off at 8:15 PM CDT.

Next Saturday also brings us Florida-Alabama, Texas-Oklahoma & Wisconsin-Michigan State(Badgers get exposed).

So who won the "Big Pillow Fight?" Actually there's a "Big Pillow Fight" four or five times a season, so this was BPF I. UNLV hammered New Mexico 45-10. Why is it the "BFW" you ask? New Mexico has a stalwart 1-19 record over their last 20 games. Of the 120 teams in the FBS(football bowl schools), the Lobos rank 84th in passing, 117th in rushing, 119th in points scored & 120th in points allowed. The UNLV Rebels, 0-3 going into this slugfest, ranked 104th in passing, 108th in rushing, 117th in points scored & 107th in points allowed. I rest my case, "Big Pillow Fight" it is. For UNLV, no BPF next week, Nevada rolls into Sin City & there will be no pillows, the Wolfpack will drop an anvil on the Rebels.

With Minnesota's home loss to Northern Illinois & Georgia's really ugly loss in Starkville to Mississippi State, their coaches have to vault near the top of the "soon to be canned" list. Both lost by double-digits, Minnesota lost their third straight non-con home game, the first to Division 1AA South Dakota. Tim Brewster can't be long for Minnesota's 1-year old stadium. Mark Richt has to be on the Georgia hot seat too. They aren't winning & worse, they don't look like they are ready to win. This team is a mess, unless he beats Florida, I can't see a way he stays in Athens next year.
