RAYE OUT, JET INDIGNATION IS PHONEY & MIZZOU FINALLY MISSES A PAT
After yesterday's crushing 31-10 defeat at Arrowhead, San Francisco Forty-Niner head coach Mike Singletary gave his offensive coordinator, Jimmy Raye, the dreaded "vote of confidence." It didn't last 24 hours, Raye was fired about 90-minutes ago. Singletary ought to fire himself, he & his entire staff was so out coached by Haley & his his coordinators, it was really embarrassing. Singletary has to be on the hot seat in Frisco.
Ray Rice was feared to have sustained a severe knee injury yesterday in the Browns-Ravens game. Rice had 80 yards on just 15 carries prior to leaving the game. A Monday Morning MRI revealed no serious damage & his status for Sunday's trip to Pittsburgh is day-to-day. Another MRI has calmed everyone in St. Louis, Steven Jackson does not have a groin muscle tear. He too is considered day-to-day.
The weekly Bernard Pollard watch: 15 tackles in yesterday's loss to Dallas. More impressive tho was Cowboy OLB DeMarcus Ware with 6 tackles, 3 sacks, 5 tackles for loss & 3 additional QB hits.
How quickly things change, Buffalo released their starting quarterback from just a week ago. Trent Edwards is history & the move points to how clueless the Bills organization really is. He starts all during the preseason, plays in both regular season games, gets benched after week two & is released today. Chan Gailey took on the worst team in the league & frankly some of his decisions leave big questions as to his ability to turn things around anytime soon.
Jets' general manager Mike Tannenbaum said yesterday the team was more disappointed in Braylon Edwards being out till 5 AM on Tuesday than his DUI arrest & was more of a factor in Edwards being benched for the 1st quarter last night. Bull crap. Left tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson & DE Vernon Gohlston were in the car with Edwards & out till 5 AM. Why weren't they benched in the 1st quarter as well if late night cruising is such a concern to Jet management? The entire thing is a joke.
Danny Woodhead scored a touchdown for the New England Patriots yesterday on a 22-yard run. Woodhead, in his 3rd year with his 3rd team, was a monster college runner. Does anybody remember him? Woodhead attended Chadron State, in Nebraska. He ran for 7,871 yards & 101 touchdowns at the Division II university.
For all the Boise State haters, once again the Broncos took away their opponents most potent weapons. Oregon State depends on the Rogers brothers, James & Jacquizz, to power their offense. In Saturday's game Jacquizz was held to 46 yards on 18 carries & brother James caught just 2 passes for 11 yards. James did take a punt back for a score, but from scrimmage, he made zero impact on the game's outcome.
The early lines on the three big college showdowns:
Oklahoma -4 versus Texas
Oregon -7 versus Stanford
Alabama -9 versus Florida
The Mizzou Tigers had made 252 consecutive point after touchdown kicks before finally missing one Saturday against Miami of Ohio. They were just 10 short of the all-time NCAA record of 262 held by Syracuse.
The Big-12 has 6 undefeated teams right now, Mizzou, Nebraska, Kansas State & Oklahoma are all 4-0. Texas A&M & Oklahoma State are both 2-0.
After watching the Chiefs defensive line in their three victories, how impressive is the job done by D-Line coach Anthony Pleasant & D-Coordinator Romeo Crenell? After watching former D-Line coach Tim Krumrie scream at his guys for three years, I knew there had to be a better answer at D-Line coach. The difference is amazing isn't it? I thought their three nose tackle alignment from yesterday with Shaun Smith, Ron Edwards & Glenn Dorsey was the best performance of the year. I know this won't be the final line for this team, but they are playing like they give a damn, something I wasn't certain of in recent years. By the way, where is Tim Krumrie coaching right now? He's out of football, unemployed as a defensive line coach. Not a surprise here at RFR.
